Hertzog Headlines
recent happenings in 4th grade - January 11-15
Day of Service
Please see the letter in the Thursday packet on the Day of Service our school will be participating in on February 26th. 4th grade is being divided and our class will go to Truman Medical Center to participate in inter-generational activities. Permission slip and more information to come later. Also, other grade levels are needing donations if you are willing and able to donate. The following dontations are requested: gently used or new shoes, 1 yard of fleece, fabric scissors, wide-tooth combs, toothpaste, canned food items. We are so excited for this service opportunity!
Literacy
This week in ELA we continued making inferences in literature and in life. We also began writing informational essays about things in which we are experts!
Scholastic Order
I just want to remind everyone that books are always available on scholastic.com. You can create an account, join our class using the code: KWMM9, and submit orders whenever the mood strikes you. Scholastic is offereing a special in January that if our class orders $100 or more worth of books, every student will get a free book. It is a book from the I Survived series that students really seem to like. I also have the paper orders if you would prefer, just let me know and I will send one home!
Math
We began our fractions unit! This will be a long unit as there is much to learn with regards to fractions. So far we've learned how to represent fractions in different ways including in a shape, in a bar and on a number line.
Science
This week we did an experiment to explore weathering. This was a Mystery Science lesson and experiment. Many students struggled with the experiment due to not reading and following the directions given.
Valentine's Day party planning has begun! The parties will be on Thursday, February 11th. They will be similar to the Fall Parties held in the gyms. PTA is looking for parent volunteers if you are interested and available. The approximate time for our party is 11-12:15.
