Teacher Features From Home
AVID Virtual College Tours
No busses? Social distancing required? Too far away? No problem! Our AVID Elective Teachers didn’t let that get in the way of allowing their students to tour college campuses. Students were able to select a college of their choice, even as far away as the Pacific Coast, and take a virtual tour. Many found new college options they had not before considered or a renewed passion in their current major of interest!
Honors English with Ms. Blake
While the theatre season has been postponed, the sophomores in Ms. Blake's class have been hard at work studying, rehearsing, and performing monologues for a deeper understanding of character development and analysis. Ms. Blake's Honors English 10 students recently finished reading Antigone by Sophocles, but before reading the final play in the Oedipus trilogy, the students spent time learning about ancient Greek theatre. They questioned Oedipus's family tree, listened to a YouTube video on the origins of theatre, and discussed the dilemma of respecting family matters while adhering to unfair laws by rulers-- like Creon. The following pictures were taken from online presentations of the students' monologues.
Mrs. Lucidi’s Biology Class
Since I am still an old-school teacher who still has students reading and writing on paper, this has been quite a transition for me and I imagine for my students. Using Google Classroom and Screencastify I have been trying to keep my Biology lessons as "normal" as possible to ease our transition. Students have also been receiving some Edpuzzle assignments so that they have a better visual sense of what our content actually looks like. It may look a little different, but I have been trying to maintain the format of my classroom in a digital sense.
If you can’t see her sign it reads: I am channeling my inner Gregor Mendel! We are growing pea plants! (Mendel is referred to the "Father of Genetics". He did his work on the pea.)
Mr. O’Leary’s 6th Grade Literacy Class
In Mr. O’Leary’s 6th grade Literacy class the students have been reading the novel Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. For each chapter the students read along as they watch a Screencast created by Mr. O’Leary. Each page of the chapter has its own screen with a picture of a key concept from that page of text. Each day after reading the students are responsible for answering text based comprehension questions for which they provide evidence from the chapter. The students have been doing an amazing job and Mr. O’Leary is extremely proud of them!

Autobiographies Mrs. Ventura
For the month of April students in Mrs. Ventura’s class have been working on a slide presentation about themselves. They have to write an autobiographical story as they go through every letter of the alphabet. It is great getting to know everyone better and they will be sharing with each other next week. The best slides are the ones they include action pictures of themselves. It’s been fun.
A Message From Our School Nurse, Mrs. Kathryn Dreger
Senior Spotlight
Erinn Doyle
How is your adjustment to remote learning going?
It’s been pretty difficult. I love being face to face with teachers, and in a learning environment like a classroom, so this has been hard.
What is the hardest thing about this adjustment? What is one aspect that you enjoy more than traditional school?
The hardest thing is managing my time. Since everything is due at midnight, I’m procrastinating more. But I love that I’m able to work almost every day now and save my money for college!
What are you doing to keep busy when your school work is finished?
I work a lot, almost every day. So that’s keeps me busy. I’ve also been spending a lot of time with my family and face-timing my friends to stay in touch.
What college(s) have you been accepted to, and where are you choosing to go?
I have been accepted to Rider University, Kean University, and York College of PA. I will be attending York College in the fall. Go Spartans!
What will be your course of study?
I will be studying Elementary Special Education.
What is one message you would like to share with your fellow seniors at Woodbury High School?
I would like all of my fellow seniors to know that we are going to come out of this stronger, as individuals and as a group. You guys are my family, and I wouldn’t want to be going through all of this with any other class.
