Mrs. Turner's Tidbits
Is it really December!?! With all the changes to our year, it seems weird to know that we are already close to finishing the first semester of school. This year has given us many new ways of doing things. I must be honest, it has been a lot. When you envision things it is often hard to picture what the true reality will be. Overall, the picture for most things has been much better than imagined. The children have adapted to the masks, “pod” classrooms, and separate recesses. I will not say that they are fans, but that they have adapted. The teachers have as well. We do miss some past favorites like TGIF, Just Dance Party, Big kid/little kid groups and programs in person. I do believe the future looks bright and that we will be able to return to those fun memories in the near future.
Thank you all for your donations towards Mom’s Pantry. Mrs. Linda Pierce felt extremely blessed by our schools. The donations will go towards their Christmas Pantry. Thank you all so very much for your participation in this drive. I will be sporting some cool highlights in my hair for the next few weeks since we tripled the donation amount we were hoping for.
We hope you enjoyed our modified, virtual Grandparent’s Day. It did look a lot different than the past years but it was still a lot of fun to put together. I think the sound was probably a lot better too. Unfortunately, some videos were recorded on phones that were not as easy to transfer the material from. We will keep that in mind as we begin recording for the Christmas Program.
Just a quick FYI…our Christmas Program was scheduled to be held on December 8th this year. We usually have to work around other programs being held in the same location. We will be working on the performances and will record them some time in December. They will not be ready by the 8th. Due to the changes for the year, we will be using a virtual format for this as well. We will share the link on FB and through email. We realize that this isn’t the way it has been done in the past but it is 2020 and nothing has been the same as it was in the past.
Speaking of the upcoming holiday, I hope you are all finding the time to get all the last minute things done prior to Christmas. You can tell Christmas is near as the students really struggle during this time. I know the teachers are working hard to keep the students focused and working to do their best in the classrooms. It may feel like we are being picky with behavior. We are not. When you have around 20 children who are all the same age and are all excited, you must tighten the reins a bit more than usual. This keeps it from getting out of control. Please continue to remind your student that we are here to learn and to do their best to keep themselves in control.
Just a quick reminder…we dismiss at 1:00 on Dec. 22nd. Please be sure to make arrangements for your child for that afternoon. The classroom parties will be held from 9:30-10:15 that morning. We will not be able to have parents attend the parties but we will be working with PTO and all of you for the party supplies.
We only have a few more weeks before the end of the first semester. CRAZY!!! This year is flying by! Please help your child stay focused on their school work by checking their book bags nightly. I know they have MANY other thoughts—mainly what will be under the tree—that often takes their focus off their studies and homework. Thanks so much for your help with this! If you need to check on your student’s progress, 4th-6th grade parents can visit PowerSchool to stay informed. You can access this through our district website.
One last quick request…please be sure to mark your child’s name in their coats. If you have a missing coat, we probably have it in the office. Our lost and found pile often grows and pours out onto the office floors. Please feel free to call and describe any missing coats, hats, gloves, shoes and other items. Thanks so much!
Merry Christmas everyone!!!
