Bridge Street School Vision and Mission Statements
Bridge Street School’s faculty and staff, caregivers, and community are committed to providing educational excellence and equity to its students by challenging the injustices that create barriers to high academic achievement, to access and opportunities to learn, to high-quality teaching and learning, and to a climate of belonging. This commitment to educational equity, where all children are successful regardless of their personal, social, or cultural contexts, is at the core of our practices, structures, and policies.
A Message from Principal Choquette
Good afternoon. I hope you all had a nice week and weekend. I hope that all of you who celebrate had a very happy, healthy, and peaceful Hanukkah.
It's hard to believe it's December already. It is an exciting time of year for many, our students get very excited about the holidays, I just ask that you please keep in mind those families who are struggling. This time of year can bring a mix of emotions for all of us. We never want to take away the excitement that our kids feel about whatever they may celebrate, but we want to be mindful of those who don't or who are going through difficult times.
I began my visits to the 3rd and 5th grades this past week. My time with the kids was to spent doing a deep dive into our Vision and Mission statements. First we discussed what a vision and mission are and then we broke down the vocabulary and meaning of the two. We then connected how some of the behaviors we are seeing are creating barriers for their classmates opportunities to learn, their sense of belonging, and feeling safe at school and how those barriers we are creating are injustices. We really focused on injustices created by ourselves in our school community as our students have a keen sense of justice and what is fair. We also reviewed our 3 R's: Create Respectful environments for students to learn and grow in, foster a commitment to the value of Relationships, and engage students in being Responsible members of a school community.
Our next BASE session will begin in January. Please see the registration packet below. We are still waiting on the Spanish translation of the packet. Once we receive it we will add it. If you are interested in providing a program and teaching, please reach out to Shevaun Keogh Walker at skeoghwalker@northampton-k12.us.
Our next school council meeting will be held this Wednesday. Please see the agenda below. All are welcome to attend.
There is a half day this Wednesday. Please see the dismissal times below under important dates.
Finally, Each year, Florence Bank awards $100,000 to local non-profits through its Customers' Choice Community Grants program. Award amounts are based on customer voting--the more votes we get, the more money the BSS PTO is awarded. If you are a Florence Bank customer, please vote by December 31st to cast your vote for the Bridge Street School PTO. You can also stop by a local Florence Bank branch and cast a paper ballot. And please spread the word to family and friends who can also vote for BSS if they are Florence Bank customers. Your vote can help fund classroom supplies, books, playground materials, staff appreciation events and much, much more. So show your school spirit and get out the vote!!
Have a great week!
