What are they???
Earthquake Information - Just a bit of our knowledge
Earthquakes are caused by tectonic plates rubbing together; sections of the Earth's crust. The Earth's crust is an up-to-eighty-kilometres-thick layer of the Earth. The plates catch on each other. So when they catch, pressure builds up and as the plates try to keep moving, ('cause they move) they make the Earth shake. To demonstrate, lock your knuckles together and push them in opposite directions. When they are free, the pressure shakes your hands.
In an earthquake, tuck yourself into a turtle position and get under a desk.
The glowing green lines show the tectonic plates.
