LPES Monthly Newsletter
April 2022
Welcome to April!
Hooray!! April is here! Sunshine & warmer weather have arrived, the trees and flowers are starting to bloom, and Spring Break is right around the corner! And with all of this lovely weather comes lots of exciting activities in our classrooms and the beginning of spring MCAP testing.
April is the Month of the Military Child! Thank you for your service and all the sacrifices you make so the adults in your family can keep our country safe! Please join us in wearing purple on April 20th to show our support for our military families.
After Spring Break, Grades 3-5 will take MCAP and students will participate in a total of 8 testing sessions spread out over 2 weeks. Stay tuned for a DoJo message from your child's teacher with specific dates & helpful hints.
All of our 3rd, 4th & 5th grade students are working really hard to get ready and all of our Pre-K, K, 1st & 2nd grade students are busy planning ways to support them! We know that taking the MCAP assessment will be challenging, but we also know that our PAWSitively Amazing students will give 100% and never give up! Panda Nation Rocks!!
Have a wonderful Spring Break & get ready to enjoy all of the exciting activities we have planned for April, May, and June!
Panda love to all!

Interdisciplinary Instruction
As we approach the end of the school year, I invite you to discuss with your child’s teacher how they are incorporating interdisciplinary instruction in the classroom and incorporate this way of learning into your everyday life. Adding non-fiction books to your home library or checking out more Science and Social Studies texts at the local library is a great start. More authentic learning and vocabulary development can happen outside of the reading block and outside of school. Non-fiction books give children the opportunity to learn about the world around them. They are able to view perspectives, discover how things work, and learn about new cultures. Using non-fiction texts broadens a child’s thinking and develops their critical thinking skills. Approaching a topic or lesson through more than one discipline will place inquiry at the center of learning. Teachers prepare students to brainstorm, question, discuss, create, and possess so many other skills. Interdisciplinary teaching is one of the best methods for a child to learn multiple concepts. Evening of the Arts
Please join us on Wednesday, May 18th at 6:30pm to celebrate the LPES "Evening of the Arts." The evening will feature performances by our Panda Band, String Orchestra, Chorus, Steel Drum Band, Glee Club, and Guitar students. We will also have the pleasure of viewing visual art from Ms. Hoeferkamp's and Ms. Rodger's classrooms. Following the performance, we will have an ice cream social.
Due to changes in Covid-19 guidance, we will be able to have our performance inside.
Performing students should plan to arrive at 6:00pm and the REQUIRED dress code is plain white tops (no writing or symbols please) and black bottoms. Please plan accordingly.
