Project Environment
Project location of the volunteer is Mugla city with a population of around 65.000. The city is connected to main roads, within easy reach to most of the historical and touristic spots. It hasn’t got transportation problem and hasn’t got too much industrialization. It has an economy based on agriculture. The air pollution is less than other cities as a result of a small amount of industrialization and wider green fields. With its important campus university, Mugla is known as a student city. This has caused that Mugla has a lot of activities and areas devoting for young people. It is a vibrant city with festivals, theatrical performances, concerts organized throughout the year. Its history and its touristic places are its most important features.
The volunteers will come to our project to take part in Mugla Youth Center activities.
First they will enjoy the city and its location;
Project location of the volunteer is Mugla city with a population of 56.000. The city is connected to main roads, within easy reach to most of the historical and touristic spots. It hasn’t got transportation problem and hasn’t got too much industrialization. It has an economy based on agriculture. The air pollution is less than other cities as a result of a small amount of industrialization and wider green fields. As it has a university, students make up most of its population. This has caused that Mugla has a lot of activities and areas appealing for young people. It is a vibrant city with festivals, theatrical performances, concerts organized throughout the year. Its history and its being close to the touristic places are its most important features.
Our Center will provide the following opportunities for the volunteers:
- Volunteer will receive 5 hours of Turkish language lessons on weekly basis, apart from this, the volunteer will attend folk dances and cultural courses per week. In that way, s/he will get the opportunity of being acquainted with Mugla and Turkish culture.
-Volunteer will share a flat with other young people studying at the university and have also done voluntary work in our center. Volunteers will stay with their peers, thus adapting to the country and the city more easily and realizing intercultural learning on the highest level.
-Sunday and Monday are off, and s/he can attend to courses given by the center free of charge. They will partake in sporting events, matches, activities, projects, youth exchanges camps and trips throughout the year.
Our need of hosting new volunteers to assist our activities came from the fact that youth ministry will organise different trips and youth camps during the year called under the project name " Seyyah project"; in 2012 with the first session of Seyyah project, around 150 000 young people joined the trips. For the next year we want that more youth could benefit from this project and encourage the mobility of youth to know and discover more about their country.
Having EVS volunteers in the youth center will motivate the local youth to join these trips, and to be more active in an multicultural context. Moreover and basically, the volunteer will be in charge of desk tasks regarding the organization of the trips and camps, preparation of database, promoting the youth work to the young people, creating posters and making online and face to face meeting with the local inhabitants to be more aware about youth center activities.
The role and activities of EVS volunteers in Mugla Youth Center will be as follow:
- Promote youth works activities : making posters about youth center activities, the trips and camps organized, making a new web site.
- Desk tasks: taking and collecting applications of young people that want to join the different activities of the center.
- Assisting in writing and preparing youth projects under youth in action program.
- Creating a database for the different activities of the youth center like the trips, the sports events, the sport clubs, the training, seminars and youth exchanges.
- Volunteers will also be responsible for helping the youth-works in the logistics of the different actions that the youth center will organize.
- Volunteers can join the trips and camps of the youth center as leaders and facilitator depending on their skills and competencies.
We look for volunteers with high level of communication skills, have knowledge about youth in action program, with skills in design and graphic, good level of English. We request volunteers that are wiling to communicate easily with our young poeple, for so to be warm, social, helpful, patient, with a high level of motivation and that are open to international dialogue and have desire to learn and respect the cultural differences. Special attention will be given for a balanced distribution of gender in the process of selection.
Mugla is a secure and social city in which the volunteer can lead her/his life and involves in the activities. So far, no problems or dangerous events had disturbed our surrounding. Volunteer will have a full health insurance during all of their project period. When encountered with a health problem, S/he will easily be taken to the hospital. Also, S/he will have a mentor trained for crisis management and experienced in youth works. In this way , we make prevent the possible crisis.
