Avon East Monthly News
October 2022
I hope you're doing well and your family is enjoying Avon East! It's so hard to believe it's already October!
We appreciate all of you who have reached out with kind words, a hug, and/or support during this past week as we lost a former student. Our fall fundraiser (see below) will help support keeping Isaac's memory alive at Avon East by purchasing items for our sensory room. Our hearts are with his family now and always.
Please let me know if you have any questions about the information below- It is such a fun month!!! Hug your babies tight and let us know if you need anything.
With gratitude,
Ms. Erin Holzhauer, Principal

October SOAR Cart Sign Up
Here is the October sign-up if you're interested in helping: Soar Cart Volunteers: Avon East October SOAR Cart (signupgenius.com)
Thank you so much in advance for volunteering your time! It's pretty awesome how excited the kids get when they get to spend their hard-earned Eagle Bucks :)
If you are unable to volunteer for the SOAR cart, you can still help us from home! Please encourage your child to SOAR - "Say It"- use kind words, "Own It" - be accountable for your actions, "Act It"- act like your best self & make safe choices, and "Respect It"- be respectful to yourself, others, and our school.
Fall Parent/Teacher Conferences: October 18th & 20th

MAP Reports
You should have received your student's MAP report via PowerSchool email.
Please keep in mind that MAP scores are one piece of the puzzle.
Second grade families, also keep in mind that your child's test was not read to them. This is different than they experienced in Kindergarten and First grade.
We encourage our teachers to use classroom data to drive instruction. MAP reports give insight, however, we mostly use these reports to assess growth from fall to winter and winter to spring. We rely on our daily observations and assessments for instructional strategies and pacing.
Your child may receive a RIMP (reading improvement and monitoring plan) if he/she did not receive a reading RIT score that is deemed "on track" by the Ohio Department of Education. First graders must score a 149 to be considered "on track" by ODE. Second graders must score a 164 to be considered "on track". If your child receives a RIMP, your child's teacher will contact you to discuss the letter and what he/she will be doing to provide extra reading support in the classroom. This will most likely happen during your parent/teacher conferences on October 18th & 20th.
If you have questions, please contact your child's teacher.

Office reminders- Early Dismissals
*If your child is switching to a car rider for the day- please send in a written note to your child's teacher.
We ask that if you are picking your child up from the front office at 3:15 or earlier that it be for appointments or emergencies only. Otherwise, please use our car rider line. Depending on where you are in line, children exit the building from 3:30-3:40. It really is a smooth process :) Please write your teacher a note for the office staff and be sure you have a car rider tag. If you forget to write a note- you can call our main office and the secretaries will take your name down and ask you to join the car rider line for pick-up- please have your ID ready. If you need a car tag, we can send one home with your child- just write a note and send in $1 to your teacher.
