Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week May 1-5
Next week is teacher and staff appreciation week and the PTSA and STAC (staff and teacher appreciation committee) have some great plans in place to shower our Ridgeway teachers and staff with love! As a part of this celebration we ask that you have your student(s) fill out this brief page with some kind notes and return it to their teacher next week (May 1-5). On the reverse side you will find a place for your student(s) to draw a picture. While the PTSA and STAC are planning to celebrate all teachers and staff please feel free to have your student bring in their own token of appreciation next week as well. Staff and teacher "favorites lists" are available on the Ridgeway PTSA Facebook page and in the office. I am also able to email lists if you would like one. Thank you for your participation and if you have questions please email me, Kylene Richardson, at KyleneS.is@gmail.com
MAP Testing
MAP Testing Schedule
Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) testing will start next week. This state standardized test will be given to students in third, fourth, and fifth grades. All testing will be in the morning on the dates listed below:
Grade 3 students: May 2 and 3
Grade 4 students: May 2 and 3
Grade 5 students: May 2, 3, and 4
During test sessions, the only electronic devices allowed in the room are the ones being used for testing. For Unit C students, iPads will remain at school beginning Monday, April 17 through the duration of the MAP testing window. Also, students that arrive late to school will have to wait in the office until the testing session has concluded. There are several things that you can do to help prepare your child:
- Make sure your child has a good night’s rest before testing dates.
- Make sure your child has a nutritious breakfast.
- Arrive at school on time.
- Leave all watches, Fitbits, and other electronic devices at home.
- Avoid appointments on testing days.

From Mrs. Ryberg, Ridgeway Counselor
Greeting Ridgeway,
In counseling class, we are currently learning about careers. You can talk to your student about building their interests (the things they like to do) and their skills/abilities (the things they are good at and are learning about). Students learned that their careers span their lifetime and are made up of their interests, skills, hobbies, learning, volunteering, education, and jobs. We explored skills they are learning now that will help them in their career later, such as: math, reading, writing, science, art, music, PE, media/technology, collaboration, teamwork, communication, problem solving, safety, self control, etc. Building new skills takes hard work, and working hard as a student helps with growth in these areas. Students learned that there are many different types of jobs. Some of the jobs that will be available when they are older haven’t been invented yet! At school, students will take part in an interest inventory which may lead them to the career paths they are interested in.
Attached is the Missouri Connections Website for our Unit C students to explore:https://portal.missouriconnections.org/
To explore different careers with your student discuss the skills, interests, tools, and education they will need. To learn more about their careers of interest you can visit this site: Who am I? Jobs for when I grow up! | Highlights Kids | Kids Videos

Class Placement
You might be wondering how students are assigned to homeroom teachers when they transition to a new unit!
Ridgeway teachers spend time meeting with other unit teams to ensure that each child is placed in a classroom where they will thrive academically and socially. We work hard to make sure each and every classroom is a stimulating academic environment. We know that parents know their child best! If any parent would like to write a letter outlining their child’s individual learning needs, we are happy to consider this input. We are not able to accommodate requests for a specific classroom or teacher. Specific placement requests do not allow us to balance classrooms effectively. One of the great things about Ridgeway is the flexibility within each unit team. Children are assigned to a homeroom, but work with the other teachers in the unit. This approach to grouping students makes it possible for children to get to know and work with all of the teachers. We feel that a collective responsibility for students helps to make Ridgeway a great place to learn. Parent letters regarding their child’s learning needs should be submitted to Shari Lawson (slawson@cpsk12.org) by May 19, 2023.
