Kids In Charge
Kids in Charge is beginning its 30th year of prevention programming in West Bloomfield Schools! The Kids in Charge (KIC) Program will begin this week in your child’s classroom. KIC is an on-going program throughout the school year(4 sessions in 1st grade and 5 sessions in 2nd – 5th grade). It is an elementary substance abuse education/prevention program provided by your School’s Physical Education Teacher.
Capturing Kids Hearts!
Our CKH theme for October is self-direction.
What does it mean to Self-Direct?
Self-Direction is the ability and learned skill to cast a vision of future goals and then take intentional steps toward who, where, and what we want to be. Instead of focusing on things to control or avoid, we emphasize our responsibility to make positive choices related to our emotions, attitudes, and actions.
Why focus on Self-direction?
- Self-direction strengthens relationships. Self-direction helps to grow social skills and develop meaningful, positive relationships with others.
- Self-direction teaches personal responsibility. Learning to self-direct teaches students to take responsibility for their own actions.
- Self-direction helps us to regulate emotions: Self-direction empowers students to regulate their impulses and emotional responses to situations and circumstances in their life.

Carline Drop-off and Pick -up Reminders
To help with the safety and efficiency of our Carline Arrival and Dismissal we've put together a list of reminders that will help our process.
- For safety reasons, we ask that drivers and other adults remain in the car during pick up and drop-off.
- Please continue to use the lane that allows your student to get out without crossing traffic.
- Please have your Carline Sign visible to our staff during dismissal.
- Prepare your child to exit the car quickly-mask on, backpack and lunchbox ready and easy to grab, coat on. If it's too difficult to have the backpack on in the car, your child can put it on after he or she exits the car.
- If you need to walk your children to the building, please use the crosswalk at the back of the drop-off line near the basketball court. Please do not walk through the two cars lines.
- Stay in your lane as you go through the drop-off line.

Bus Tracker App Reminder
As a reminder, Durham Transportation, our district’s transportation partner, offers a helpful bus tracking app for West Bloomfield families. The Bus Tracker app is available for iOS, Android and web and allows families to track their student(s) bus along its route, to and from school.
Families will need to have their student(s) ID number(s) which are available in PowerSchool in order to log into the app and create an account. As a safety protocol, the Bus Tracker app will only allow families to see their student(s) bus route(s) only.
If you have any questions, please consult the Bus Tracker instructions and visit the Bus Tracker webpage on the Durham Transportation website for more information and to download the app.
We hope the use of the Durham Transportation Bus Tracker app will help better inform our families of slow downs and delays in the bus pick up and drop off times. We appreciate your patience, understanding, and flexibility as we navigate the first days of this new school year. We value the importance of consistency and safety in our transportation offering to families.
If you have any questions or would like more information, call our Transportation Offices at (248) 865-3680.
