Future Huskies Tours - October 24
Hello 8th Grade Families!
We are so excited to have students from Julian and Roosevelt Middle School join us on the morning of October 24th for Future Huskie Tours. The 8th graders will join us here at OPRFHS beginning at 9:30am, where they will be welcomed by our cheer team and Hemmy the Huskie. They will then proceed to the auditorium for a brief introduction to the high school presented by our Student Activities Coordinator, Athletic Director and Principal. Following this presentation, they will break up into groups (determined by the middle schools) and our amazing Leadership students will guide them through the school, popping into classrooms and other important stops along the way. After the tours, the 8th graders will have an opportunity to ask questions of the OPRF students and staff within their groups. The entire tour will end at 11:00am and the 8th graders will return to Julian in time for lunch.
● Please note, there will be additional opportunities for families of incoming freshmen to visit
and learn more about OPRF. Detailed information will be provided as the dates near, but as an

○ December 13th & 14th - Incoming Freshmen Transition Night
○ January 19th - Future Huskie Open House

The Julian Book Fair returns!
The Julian Book Fair will be October 27 and 28 during parent-teacher conferences. Let’s make up for the last few lean years of virtual fairs, while encouraging our kids to read more! Here are the top 4 ways you can help:
VOLUNTEER for a shift at the book fair using this LINK
Email your child’s advisory teacher and ask them to create a wishlist.
Send your kid to school with some cash to get some early shopping in during lunch recess on Mon, Tue, and Wed of that week. A selection of books will be set up in the library. Students may have the opportunity to go to the fair with one of their classes on Thur or Fri, too. There will be a raffle too, giving away books and gift cards to some local places.
SHOP! The book fair will be open to parents/guardians during conferences. You can use cash, check and credit card during these open hours:
Thur. Oct. 27 from 9 am - 8 pm
Fri. Oct. 28 from 9 am - 12:30 pm
Get a sneak preview of some of what will be available. Check out the book fair FLYER.
Thanks!
Parent-Teacher Conferences
On parent-teacher conference days, students will be in attendance for only a half day. Classes will be from 9am - noon only. Lunch will NOT be served on 10/27 and 10/28.
We will host our student-led parent-teacher conferences on October 27, 2022 in-person.
Student IDs must be worn during the school day
PJMS Families,
Julian students are asked to wear their school IDs every day while at school. We are in need of your help in making sure that every PJMS student wears their school ID every day.
During the first quarter to help our students get in the habit of wearing their IDs, PJMS has provided our students with Lanyards to ensure they can most appropriately be identified, etc.
Starting October 23rd, we are going to require all students to wear their IDs at all times at PJMS. Students who need a lanyard will be charged $2 for a replacement lanyard. Students who need a new ID will be charged $3 to replace their ID's.
Please help us keep the building safe by talking with your student, encouraging them to wear their school ID at all times while at PJMS. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact one of our Administrative team members for further details.
Thank you,
PJMS Administration

Spirit Week - October 31 - November 4
Click here to check out our Fall Spirit Week flyer!
On Monday, students will be able to wear Halloween costumes to school. Our goal is to create a positive learning environment where all students, staff and families feel a sense of belonging. In that spirit, we ask that you take care to ensure that your child’s costume choice does not portray a stereotypical image of any group of people or culture, or be offensive to any one racial, ethinic or religious group. In addition, students should refrain from wearing face make-up to school as this is distracting during the day. Additionally, NO weapons or violent images are permitted as part of a costume.
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
Throughout the year, teachers will be reinforcing students' positive behavior with Jaybucks (this year we have paper tickets AND a digital version!), which can be spent at the upcoming school store. Can you support our PBIS efforts by providing items for our school store? Check out our Amazon wishlist. THANK YOU!!
School Store - New Procedure
Our first School Store for the school year will be Wednesday, October 26. Since we’re using PBIS Rewards, the process will be different this year.
In Advisory on Monday Oct 24 and Tuesday Oct 25, students will be able to login to their PBIS Rewards platform on their Chromebooks and pre-order items from the school store. Online ordering will close at the end of the day on Tuesday Oct 25. Students will then pick up their pre-ordered items on Wednesday Oct 26 during their lunch period.

Communication
In 2020, Principal Christian implemented the theme of "over-communicate" amid the flexibility of the COVID19 virus and how information might change at a moment's notice. Last year, our theme was "growing together". And now in 2022-23, we'd like to continue with our new theme of "Stronger, Together". Here are the ways in which Principal Christian and the Jayhawk staff communicates:
- Our Official Percy Julian Facebook Page (click here)
- Christian's Weekly Communication (every week)
- PowerSchool Daily Bulletin Alerts
- Text Messages (Jayhawk Text Messages District 97 uses the notification system BrightArrow to communicate with families via email and phone calls. This year, we have started using periodic text messages to send reminders directly to parents' cell phones. In order to receive text messages, parents must opt-in by texting YES to 87569. Once you have subscribed, you will receive a text confirmation.)
