Weekly Update for Week of May 16 - May 20
Good Evening Brightwood Family, this is Principal Stokes!
Welcome to another great week of learning. This is reminder that our doors open at 7:00 am and tardy bell rings at 7:25 am. Please remember that everyone should be prepared to show identification when picking up a student early which should be for emergencies and appointments should be done before 1:45 pm. Instruction does not end until 2:10 pm
Each morning from 7:25 – 8:00 am our students are engaged in testing prep it is very difficult for the students to get the needed practice and feedback if they are late daily as we work to prepare them for the End of year assessment preparation.
The federal waivers that allowed all schools to serve free breakfast and lunch to all students are ending this summer. To ensure that students who qualify for free or reduced-price meals are able to receive those meals on the first day of school, we are asking parents to fill out the application at www.lunchapplication.com. This will establish a family’s qualifications for meal discounts for the first 30 days of the 2022-23 school year. A new application must be completed after July 1 for the remainder of the school year.
Parents, we are in great need of your support in making sure that all students are their proper rest. Please create a set schedule that limits your child’s screen time, phone time, and TV time so that your child will have a reasonable amount of sleep to function in school. EOG testing will begin in 8 days. Please begin to prepare your child for these state assessments with a consistent routine and we have already started testing DIBELS in grades Kindergarten through third grade students.
The election ballot includes a fraction of a penny (0.25%) sales and use tax. County officials estimate that the impact would equate to five pennies for every $20 spent on most goods and services. Learn about the tax and the school bond it would fund: https://schoolbondfacts.com. Please make sure you take the time to vote on May 17, 2022.
We are collecting devices for the school year this week. We are asking all students to bring their devices and charging cords to school by Thursday May 19, 2022. The devices and chargers will remain at school for the reminder of school year.
Northeast High School Seniors will conduct their Senior walk at Brightwood on Thursday morning at 9:30 am.
The district has provided new One Cards for all students. One Cards are a safety measure to assure that we know who is on our buses and in our school buildings each day. Please help your child keep track of their One Card and have it on each morning. One Cards are needed to get on the bus each morning. Also, One Cards are scanned each morning when they enter the building. Many students are not coming with their One Card. It is a clear expectation that they have their cards daily. The cost to replace their cards is $5.
We greatly appreciate your support as we continuously work to provide an excellent education every day to each of our Brightwood Tiger this school year. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us here at the school or send us a message on ClassDojo.
Thank you for all that you do and have a great evening. Remember you are amazing!
Love Always Your Principal
Ms. LaTrice Stokes
