Donations for the Holidays
If you would like to donate unwrapped toys or other gift items to children and teens in need, please bring them to the Walnut office the week of December 5-9. PTA is supporting Action VC to help provide a special holiday season for families in our community. Donations will be featured at the free Newbury Park Christmas Shoppe. Several of our Walnut families are invited each year.
Inclusive Schools Week December 5-9
Walnut is excited to join all CVUSD schools in celebrating "Inclusive Schools Week" December 5-9. This year's theme fits with Walnut's overall vision by emphasizing "Unity in our Community." We believe every child deserves to feel safe and valued, and to know that they belong. This is a week to recognize how much we have in common and how great it is to have differences, too. We will kick off the week with our monthly Wildcat Pride Assembly in the MPR, where student leaders will share ways to be proactive about kindness and including others. Over the course of the week, all students and staff members will have the chance to contribute to a school-wide mural that celebrates what each person has to offer our school community. Walnut PTA is organizing the mural project, which will be on display in the MPR.
Minimum Day on December 16th--No TEAM Walnut
Don't forget that all CVUSD elementary schools will have a minimum day on Friday, December 16th. All grade levels will dismiss at 12:30 p.m. The TEAM Walnut after-school program will not be held that day. Any students who participate in the Steel Sports after-school soccer class will have a makeup day in January. Schools resumes after winter break on Tuesday, January 3rd.
Walnut Elementary School
Walnut is a neighborhood school with a BIG heart, where every student is valued and encouraged to develop a lifelong love of learning. We believe in developing the whole child, so we invest in the visual and performing arts, technology, and physical fitness in addition to traditional academics. We were recently one of five schools in Ventura County named as a California Honor Roll School. We are committed to our mission statement, Academic Excellence for All in a Safe, Enriching Environment. Walnut has an active PTA, School Site Council, and English Language Advisory Council. Each of these groups of parents and community members would LOVE to have YOU join them in making sure Walnut provides the best possible learning environment for students and families. Please contact us if you'd like to know more. --Mrs. Wall, Principal
