4th Grade ELA/Reading & Math

Nance & Presley ~ Week of 11/17/14

We are going to continue our discovery of narrative essay writing. Next week we will write about a time we had to make a change. We will use what we learned about introductions to make our writing more interesting for our readers. We will also apply proper use of quotations when we use direct speech. Listen to the song below. See if you remember some of the punctuation rules.

Comprehension of Literary Text

Next week we will be comparing and contrasting the adventures and exploits of characters (e.g., the trickster) in traditional and classical literature. We will be reading from Aesop's Fables and finding the similarities and differences between the characters in the stories.

Have your child share what they have learned about the qualities and characteristics of tricksters in the stories they will be reading.

In math we will continue working on geometry. Over the next several weeks we will be learning lines, angles, and 2D/3D figures.
At home please continue studying multiplication facts and division steps. Make sure your child is utilizing the extra math resources on the websites that were sent home on October 7th.

Thank You Alvin ISD Education Foundation!!!!

Last year I wrote a grant to bring in more technology to the classroom. Last month we were awarded a check to purchase four Chrome books. It is amazing to see how your kiddos love learning through technology. Ask your child to show you some of the different sites we use.

Make sure to donate to this amazing foundation. All money goes back into the classrooms.
