Under 18 Ride Free with a PRONTO Youth Account
The Youth Opportunity Pass pilot program allows anyone 18 and under to ride transit for free in San Diego County with a PRONTO youth account, including unlimited rides on the bus, Trolley, COASTER, and SPRINTER through August 31st, 2023.*
*Please note, the program was just extended 2 months and we haven’t updated the flyers yet.
AND kids 5 and under always ride free, no pass needed, regardless of this program.
There are two ways youth can use this program:
On a smartphone:
1. Download the free PRONTO app
2. Register for an account to get a virtual pass – this will default to an adult card
3. Go to the “manage” tab and find the card number [screenshots below]
4. Then visit https://www.sdmts.com/fares-passes-reduced-fares/request-change-reduced-fare-card and fill out the form to convert this account from Adult to Youth. Only one account per phone is allowed and it will take 1-2 business days to process.
Don't have a smartphone? Pick up a free physical pass from their school (these are cards that are already activated as youth passes) OR *Convert* an adult pass they already have (or buy one from anywhere PRONTO cards are sold for $2) using the same online form above.

From the Librarian
The San Diego County Library has made its digital and audio books available to thousands of local students throughout the county. Any student in Vista USD, using just their student IDs, may check out the library’s collection of age-appropriate digital materials via Sora, an app used by school districts.
Additionally, every VHS student can check out the San Diego County Library’s Teen Book of the Month with their student ID through the Sora app— the ebook and the audiobook! There are unlimited checkouts for this month only.

You’ll be the Death of Me by Karen McManus
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • From the author of One of Us Is Lying comes a brand-new pulse-pounding thriller. It's Ferris Bueller's Day Off with murder when three old friends relive an epic ditch day, and it goes horribly—and fatally—wrong.

Family & Community Engagement
The Importance of Community Engagement
The work we do as Community Liaisons is built on interactive methods that bridge communication between our school and the community. Our culturally rich experiences serve as our foundation for helping our students and their parents in a safe and loving environment. Based on the demographics of our community, Spanish is the home language for many of our families and for this reason we provide bilingual support while also acknowledging and honoring all languages, backgrounds, and narratives. We assist in facilitating families with access to communication and resources. In our mission, we strive to make our greatest efforts to preserve our connections and encourage learning and education for both our students and their families. -Dalia R. Hipolito Martinez
