Dear Totem Falls Families,

All of us here are trying to stay healthy so we can come to work every day! As you well know, many school districts are not so lucky. Here in Snohomish, the administrative team have been having many conversations about our preparation for Omicron consequences. The goal is to keep schools open and manage them safely. We have plans to make sure classrooms are covered in the event staff become ill on a large scale. We continue to share the importance of hand hygiene, spacing, and mask wearing. A reminder to parents and caregivers too, please make sure you are masking if you are anywhere on campus, including the parking lot. I appreciate your cooperation.

I have noticed some parents are dropping off students in the parking lot/bus zone in the morning. Please use the roundabout for drop off or park and walk your child to the fence line to say goodbye. This will help maintain a safer, less congested space for buses and walkers in the morning.

Monday we will have no school in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Please take a moment and watch video below our school created in honor of MLK Jr.

Valentine's Day is coming up quickly. This is a traditional party day and many classrooms will be celebrating by sharing valentines and playing games. We will NOT be having any outside food coming in. We will still have a daily snack break and students can bring their own special snack for that day. We are aware that many packaged valentines have candy as a part of the message and those will be OK, as student will bring them home that day. We will be asking students to refrain from eating the candy until it arrives home and is checked by a parent due to individual student allergies.

• Safety at the back gate: When picking up/dropping off students at the back gate we are asking that drivers do NOT make a U-Turn in the street. It is unsafe for students and staff who are on the sidewalk. There is an entrance/exit point at both ends of the street.

• With the cold weather arriving, please make sure to send your student to school with a warm coat, labelled with your student's name.

• Please consider sending your student to school with an extra set of clothes in their backpack. With the wet weather outside, we have had a lot of students coming in from recess wet and muddy. We have very limited extra clothing to provide to students.

Due to current Covid levels in our area, the PTO has decided to cancel Family Skate Night. We are hopeful we will be able to schedule a family event later in the year

At a December 8 meeting, the Snohomish School District Board of Directors adopted resolutions to place two propositions before voters on the February 8, 2022, ballot. Voters will consider two replacement levies - Educational Programs and Operations Replacement Levy and the Replacement Levy for Technology, Safety and Facility Improvements. Both levies would replace similar levies approved by voters in 2018 and are set to expire at the end of 2022.

On Friday, January 7, the Washington State Department of Health updated its K-12 COVID-19 Requirements for the 2021-2022 School Year. Specifically, the new official requirements included:

• Updated isolation, quarantine, and testing recommendations to align with recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention changes.
• Expanded eligibility for and activities allowed during modified quarantine in Test to Stay programs.

Snohomish School District students who will be in the 4th through 6th grade next year and are invited to participate in the district’s 4/5/6 Elementary Highly Capable Program which provides learning opportunities around depth, complexity, and acceleration. If interested, the below dates and information are important. Students currently enrolled in the 4/5/6 Elementary Highly Capable Program do not need to complete the referral process.

• Tuesday, December 14 - Referral packets for the 4/5/6 Elementary Highly Capable Program will be available at all elementary schools, online and at the Snohomish School District Resource and Service Center (1601 Avenue D in Snohomish) in English, Spanish and Russian. The Snohomish School District is hiring emergency substitute teachers. Did you know you can become an emergency substitute if you hold a bachelor’s degree or higher? This position pays $185 to $260 per day (depends on duration of assignment) and the applicant must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and must pass STEDI subskills test.
