Starfish's Way of Life

Mackenzie Rothschild

There are many amazing underwater creatures in the world's oceans. Starfish are just one of them. A starfish’s habitat, life cycle, reproduction, and diet are some of the most interesting topics to learn about.

A starfish is a very interesting organism. These animals live in the coastal waters, have an interesting explanation when talking about life cycle and reproduction, but nothing beats the way the starfish’s stomach comes out of its body.

Chef's Corner

Pavlova is a multicultural pie but is mainly a dessert of Australia and New Zealand. The two islands both claim they have made this dessert after the Russian Dancer, Anna Pavlova who visited Australia in 1920s. Even if it was claimed to be made in New Zealand it would still be labeled an Australian food. This dish is a meringue-based pie, it has a crisp crust and a soft light inside. It's often decorated with whipped cream and fresh fruit. It is served at celebratory meals.

4 white eggs

1 1/4 cups white sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon lemon juice

2 teaspoons cornstarch

1 pint heavy cream

6 kiwi, peeled and sliced

  1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Draw a 9-inch circle on the parchment paper.

  2. In a large bowl, beat egg whites until stiff but not dry. Gradually add in the sugar, about 1 tablespoon at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat until thick and glossy. Gently fold in vanilla extract, lemon juice, and cornstarch.

  3. Spoon mixture inside the circle drawn on the parchment paper. Working from the center, spread mixture toward the outside edge, building edge slightly. This should leave a slight depression in the center.

  4. Bake for 1 hour. Cool on a wire rack.

  5. In a small bowl, beat heavy cream until stiff peaks form; set aside. Remove the paper, and place meringue on a flat serving plate. Fill the center of the meringue with whipped cream, and top with kiwifruit slices.

Go Fish

For my Go Fish project I chose two blue tetra glofish, two electric green tetra glofish, two green glofish, and one moonrise tetra glofish. I spent $233.04. I need a twenty gallon tank to support all of my fish. I got a lot of cool accessories for my tank. These are some of the items I got: a volcano that releases bubbles from the top, I got a waterfall and also a coral reef cave.
