Fred J. Jaindl Elementary Hosted a Wonderful Veterans Day Program this week!
The Middle School's Bully Prevention Rally - a Unique Way to Celebrate Bully Prevention Initiatives this week!
Best of Luck to the PHS Girls Volleyball team who will compete at the State Championship on Saturday, November 15 in Johnstown, PA! If the girls win, there will be a fire department escort parade when the team arrives back at school! Stay tuned on Facebook, Twitter or District web site for more info!
November 14 – 16, PHS Children’s Show Disney’s Aladdin, Jr., PHS Auditorium, Friday 11/14 at 7:30 PM, Saturday 11/15 at 11 AM & 3 PM, and Sunday 11/16 at 3 PM. All of your favorite characters from the hit Disney film - Aladdin, Jasmine, Lago, Jafar, the Genie, and more - are here in Disney's Aladdin JR., a musical adventure filled with magic, mayhem, and flying carpet rides. Disney's Aladdin Jr 's tuneful Academy award-winning score, with songs by Alan Menken, Howard Ashman, and Tim Rice, including "A Whole New World" and "Friend Like Me," will send audiences soaring. Tickets are $10 for adults or $8 for students/seniors at the door.
November 14, Ironton Turkey Trot at 9:15 AM and Schnecksville Turkey Trot 1:30 PM. After weeks of training in physical education class to improve fitness levels, the fourth and fifth graders will run a timed mile at the Annual Turkey Trot held outside on the school’s property.
November 17, College Financial Aid Night, PHS Auditorium, 7 PM. Featuring Michael Burke, Higher Education Access Partner - Southeast Region PHEAA—Pennsylvania School Services, this program is for students and parents. An extremely informative program about the financial aid process that many colleges and universities use today, the program will cover:

The CSS/Financial Aid Profile
The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency Grant/Loan Programs
Mr. Burke will provide an overview of the financial aid forms that senior students and families will need to complete over the course of the next few months.
November 20, The Harlem Wizards vs. Parkland All Stars Basketball Game, PHS Gym, 7 PM. Join us as the Parkland All Stars, a team of elementary teachers and principals, take on the Harlem Wizards. Tickets are $12 at the door. Food will be available courtesy of the Elementary PTO’s so come hungry! Proceeds benefit the Parkland School District Education Foundation and Elementary PTO’s.
November 20-26 – Elementary Schools Dismiss at 1:45 PM for Parent Teacher Conferences.
November 25-26 – Middle Schools Dismiss at 1 PM for Parent Teacher Conferences
November 26 – PHS Dismisses at 1 PM for Parent Teacher Conferences.
November 26, Jaindl Elementary Turkey Trot, Times TBD.
December 2, 7 PM Mayhem, PHS Gym, 7 PM. The entire community is invited to come out for this family-friendly event as PHS introduces the boys and girls 2014-15 basketball teams. There will be food, fun, a basket raffle, prizes, elementary shootouts, slam dunk contests and more. The teams will play a co-ed light scrimmage. Performances by the PHS Dance Team and PHS Cheerleaders and DJ Future.
December 3, Ironton STEM Project, 11 AM – 12:30 PM. Fifth Grade at Ironton Elementary is doing a new STEM (Science Technology, Engineering and Math) project this year. Students will have the challenge of building a rover out of K'Nex to land on a planet or space body of their choice. The rover then must overcome one obstacle that is a condition of the planet researched. Students also must make the rover as cost efficient as possible (each piece has a unit price). Students will present their rover to "NASA" (their parents) as a culminating activity in units of science, social studies, and reading combined with STEM skills.

Congrats to Erica Rice, a Parkland High School and LCTI Academic Center student who was inducted into the 2014 National Technical Honor Society.
PHS Student Council is collecting shoe boxes for the next two weeks to use for Holiday Hope Chests (gifts for kids in the LV).
Know any noteworthy Parkland Graduates?
The Parkland Alumni Wall of Honor currently includes 20 alumni, but we are looking for more. We are now accepting applications for honorees to be inducted at our annual Gala on May 4, 2015. We are seeking nominees who have distinguished themselves and contributed to society in an exemplary manner. Nominees must be at least 25 years of age and are evaluated on the following criteria:
· Accomplishments in his or her chosen career,
· Volunteer work or acts of service,
· A positive impact on people or contributions to others, and
· Special recognition or awards.
Applications are due by November 30, 2014. Nomination forms and more information can be

Note: The printed calendar lists PHS as having an early dismissal on both Nov 25 and 26, but there is only an early dismissal on Nov 26. November 25th will be a regular school day for all Parkland High School students.
