From the Office!

Hello Ryan Families,

Winter decided to show up (maybe??) last week... With that in mind, we'd like to remind our students and families, we are outside during recess as long as the temperature is 19 degrees or above (wind chill does play a factor in this). We're still working hard this week, before our well-deserved Winter Break! Safe travels to all our families that will be venturing out over the break. Relax and enjoy this time together! We look forward to ringing in a New Year!

COVID Immunizations

If you have had your children immunized for the COVID vaccine, and you feel comfortable doing so, please share your child's immunization record with our Health Room. Copies of records may be dropped off to the front office or emailed to our Health Room Aide, Jamie Hanes, at jamie.hanes@bvsd.org. Feel free to reach out with any questions!

Reporting An Absence

Many thanks to all our Ryan parents who phone the attendance line (720.561.7002) or use the attendance option in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal when your child is, or is going to be, absent. The system is available 24-hours a day, seven days a week so you may use it anytime of the day or night or even in advance of an upcoming absence. Students are not required to do the screener each day this school-year so that is not something we are monitoring nor is it an acceptable excuse for an absence. When your child is ill, please share their symptoms with us since we're still living in this time of COVID and it is important for us to understand why our students are not in school. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to either Jamie or Julie, in the front office.

PTA Update

Please join us tomorrow, December 14, at 6:30PM for our Virtual PTA Community Meeting. We are excited to host a very special guest speaker, Dr. Lizbeth Mendoza, from Boulder County Public Health. Dr. Mendoza will answer our questions about Covid-19 vaccines for children. You will have the opportunity to ask questions live, or you can submit your questions, in advance, at communications@ryanelementarypta.org Dr. Mendoza speaks both English and Spanish. Join meeting at meet.google.com/rfq-vige-gpr

Ryan will hold a virtual tour this Wednesday, December 15 from 6 to 7PM with Google Meet meet.google.com/ubf-jvhp-ijz

Current KG through 4th grade Ryan students do not need to do anything for their enrollment for next school year, so long as your family has not moved out of the Ryan attendance area this school year. All KG through 4th grade Rhinos who are currently OE'd to Ryan, or living in the attendance area, will automatically roll-up to the next grade, for next school year. If you have moved out of the Ryan attendance area this school year, or know you're going to, and wish to have your child remain at Ryan, you will need to register for Open Enrollment. Questions? Reach out to Julie Mueller at 720.561.7007 OR julie.mueller@bvsd.org.

Share-A-Gift Toy Drive

Ryan Elementary is once again a drop-off site for the Share-A-Gift Toy Drive. Thank you to all our families and staff that have already donated! We are filling our box! Drop-Off/Pick-Up Safety Reminders

It's never out of fashion to share our drop-off/pick-up safety reminders!! Please remember, if your child arrives after 8AM (9AM on Wednesday) they will be marked tardy!

The biggest issue we are seeing after school is cars not getting in the pick-up line and pulling into the bus lane. We closely monitor the cars that go in for safety, to reduce congestion and to keep the pace of the line moving. Please do your part and join the line!

Please help keep our students and families safe before and after school by following the safety rules below. We understand that everyone is busy and often in a hurry before and after school, however, we ask for your patience and full attention while driving around school grounds!

  • School Start and End Time: School starts at 8AM (9AM on Wednesday) students arriving after 8AM will be marked tardy. All parents must arrive no later than 3:05 to pick up their child. We do not have supervision available after this time. If you are running late please call the office.
  • Be Attentive: Please remain off your phone when dropping off and picking up your child. Take extra caution while pulling in and out of parking spots in the parking lots. There are many small children that may not be visible.
  • Car Line: After school it is very important that all cars stay in the car pick up line until directed into the bus lane for student pick up. Students may not enter cars in the parking lot. This is for the safety of all students and drivers, as well as to keep the pick up line moving smoothly (see map below). Again, if you do not want to wait in the line, you are welcome to park a couple blocks away and walk up to your child's door to pick them up.
  • Parking Lot: The parking lot is a busy place before and after school. We ask that since the parking lot is used for our pick up line, that you do not walk or ride bikes through the parking lot.
  • Be Kind: We understand that before and after school logistics can be stressful. However, we ask that everyone is kind and respectful to one another.
  • Wheels: No bikes, scooters, or skateboards allowed on school sidewalks. Please walk your wheels on the sidewalks within the parking lot driveways (see map below).
  • Pets: Although we have many pet-lovers at Ryan, please do not bring pets of any kind on school grounds while picking up or dropping off your child.
  • Crosswalks: Please only cross Centaur Village at the designated crosswalk. We ask that you are a good safety-role-model for your child, as well as all students at Ryan. Please keep the crosswalk in front of the school, as well as the intersections/sidewalks clear for everyone to get through safely.

Important Health Reminders

Unfortunately, we are still living in a world where we have to take COVID safety measures. Although there is not a required screener every day, we ask that if your child is not feeling well, please keep them home! We want to keep everyone safe and limit the disruptions in learning that quarantines cause. Although keeping our child at home can disrupt our work schedules, we must all work together to keep our school community safe.

If your child will be out (illness or non-illness related) PLEASE call 720.561.7002 or submit your child's absence through your BVSD Parent Portal. Please do not relay absences through your child's teacher.

If we do not hear from you, or if your child is out for multiple days, you will get a call from our front office or health room staff. We ask that you are patient and respectful of the staff that is working diligently to keep everyone safe.

Attached below are the current COVID Safety Guidelines and reminders. Keep an eye on the BVSD website for updates and changes to any guidance.

As a reminder, BVSD's illness protocol is as follows:

Major Symptoms:

  • Fever (100.4 or above)

  • Cough

  • Chills or feeling feverish

  • Loss of taste or smell

Minor Symptoms:
  • Runny nose or Congestion

  • Sore Throat

  • Headache

  • Muscle / Body aches or pain

  • Diarrhea

  • Vomiting / Nausea

  • Feeling extremely tired

If a student is experiencing any other COVID-like symptom(s) (minor symptoms), that lasts longer than 48 hours, they must have a negative PCR COVID test to return to school or they will need to stay home for 10 days.

Testing is available through BVSD and COVID Check Colorado throughout the district - see the schedule here.

Additional information on symptoms and when it's ok to return after an illness can be found here: CDPHE How Sick is Too Sick?

If you have questions about returning to school after an illness, please contact our school's health office.

Additionally, anyone entering Ryan Elementary must wear a mask.

5th grade students will be getting a 1:Web device during the first couple weeks of school. This will be their device that they will use through 8th grade. More details to come.

Elementary Report Cards & Progress Reports/

In the 2021-2022 school year, all elementary schools(Grades PK-5th) transitioned to a quarter schedule. Report cards will be available at the end of quarter 2 and 4. Progress reports will be delivered orally through a parent-teacher conference.

New Bullying Reporting Process/Nuevo proceso para reportar intimidación o acoso escolar (bullying)

Last school year the Board of Education updated its policies around bullying, and investigating complaints around bullying (See Policy JDHB / JDHB-E). To make the reporting process as easy as possible for victims of bullying, the district has created a single form to make a bullying report.

Once submitted, the school principal will be notified of your submission and will promptly begin to investigate the complaint. Parents/guardians can then expect to receive a report of this investigation. You can make a bullying report using the form on the Help for Students page which is also linked at the top of our school website. Paper copies will also be available in our/ your school’s front office.
