Drive-in Movies
Drive-in movies were a popular type of entertainment in the 50's.
Color Television (1957)
Color TV was a huge step-up for entertainment in the 50's. At that time, two competing color mechanisms were being championed separately by CBS and RCA.
Disneyland Opens (1955)
This picture represents the opening of Disneyland in 1955. Disneyland, the first of two theme parks built, is the only theme park build under direct supervision of Walt Disney.
Women's Fashion
This picture is a great example of women's fashion during the 50's. During this time, many women would wear dresses and had short, curled hair. Also many women had accessories, such as scarfs, hats, gloves, and sunglasses.
Men's Fashion
This is a great example of men's fashion in the 50's because many of the men would wear leather jackets, jeans, white shoes or converse, and have slicked-back (greased) hair. Men might have also wore things like suit and ties or flannels.
Women's Swimwear
During this time, two-piece swimsuits wear introduced for women. This picture is good example of what they would look like.
Ultrasound (1956)
This image shows an ultrasound, which was invented in the 50's. This was the first used for clinical purposes, which was most likely very exciting for pregnant women.
Automatic Doors (1954)
This image is of automatic doors, which was invented in 1954. This inventions was very helpful and still is now, which helps people in wheelchairs, people who are very weak, etc.
Three-point Seat Belt (1959)
This pictures shows the three-point seat belt which was invented in 1959. This innovation helps us a lot today, saving many's lives. This invention was a huge safety improvement.
Rock & Roll
Rock and Roll became very popular in the 50's. Many people would listen to this music for entertainment.
Marilyn Monroe
Marilyn Monroe's first noticeable role did not reach the screen until the 1950's, although, when she was noticed she became hugely popular.
Marlon Brando
Marlon Brando's, among many other male movies stars, screen debuts occurred in the 1950's.
