GRAHAM ELEMENTARY WEEKLY UPDATE | March 8th, 2022
Good Afternoon Graham Families,
Given the previous week was a short one, I'm writing to you for the first time in a while. As we find ourselves in March, I'm continuously surprised by how interesting a month it is in terms of the school year. It's often when students are most likely to begin displaying mastery of some skills, and with conferences having recently ended, it's a time when highlights of your child’s academic and social emotional growth are most evident.
This was especially evident today, when I got to observe Mrs. Gresher and Mrs. Evans 4th Grade Bio Bash. An activity arranged in coordination with Mrs. Shiles in the LMC, students were asked to research and discuss a famous figure with classmates. Through this activty, I was able to meet Amelia Earhart, Maya Angelou, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Clara Barton, and so many others. I even met the great Michael Jordan! In hearing their stories, their triumphs, and tribulations, it made me proud to see the inspiration and encouragement to dream big that was being instilled in our students. The enthusiasm was apparent, and a wonderful way to end the school week. Congrats to all involved and I look forward to seeing all the projects coming in the next couple of weeks.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Vacations and Classwork
As we grow closer to Spring Break, and warmer weather, please note that for absences related to vacations or trips, teachers are not required to provide homework for your student. This is purely on a case by case basis with the homeroom teacher, and with ample time for the coordination.
If your student plans to be absent during a school day, they are welcome to follow any information or assignments in Google Classroom or follow up after they return.
Kane County Cougars Reading Club
To celebrate our students as readers, all students were given one free ticket form and an option to purchase discounted tickets through the Graham push coin account.
Graham staff will attend, and the Graham chorus will sing the national anthem at the Thursday, May 19th Game.
All forms and purchases in Pushcoin must be turned in by Wednesday, March 16th.
Reminder of Calendar Change for March 15th
This is a reminder that our 2021-22 school year calendar was amended by the Board of Education on October 18, 2021.
Because the state's primary election had initially been scheduled for March 15th, that day was originally listed in our calendar as a No School day.
With the primary election now rescheduled to June, March 15th will be a regular day of attendance.

Commerating 25 Years of Graham Elementary
Graham has been a part of this community since 1996. We are celebrating 25 years of academic success and achievement. As a part of the celebration we would like to install a work of art created by our Graham students and families. The PTA has made available 4x4 ceramic tiles to all current students, staff and alumni for purchase.
If your family is interested in participating, but is unable to purchase one at this time, please reach out to Ms. Walton by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or phone (630-428-6900) with any questions. Order forms for tiles can be found in the weekly PTA Newsletter.
Boys Choice this year will be at Fuzzy Logic Escape Room, located in Downers Grove! The PTA will have all of Fuzzy Logic reserved from 4:30 - 10pm on Wednesday, April 13, 2022.
This is a facility with 5 different escape rooms. The games last one hour and there are a variety of start times so please sign up for a room that most closely matches the level of your family at a time that works for you too. Fuzzy Logic recommends The Playground for families with young children, Superheroes, Super Villains, and the Vet Office are all right in the middle, and Temple Raiders is best for our families with older kids.
Each room can accommodate a maximum of 9 people. Please make sure to only sign up for one game/time and indicate the number of people who are coming with you so we utilize the space well and don't have to turn anyone away (and please remember that this is only for boys who are students at Graham and one parent or guardian - no other siblings). Please come early to your session so you can enjoy some pizza in the party room!
Cost is $15 per person and you can pay using our PalPal link: http://paypal.me/grahampta or you can send a check for the total amount into the main office at school with a note on the envelope that reads, "PTA - Boys Choice".
RSVP/Sign up for a room at signupgenius.com/go/10C0E4EACA928A0FE3-graham no later than Tuesday, April 5, 2022 and if you have any questions, please contact Kristin Kirchner, at email@example.com.
