It's Already Time To Schedule Conferences!
From Mr. Nichols
Hi everyone!
Wow – what a start to the school year. Things have been fantastic here and that is due to our families and staff that work tirelessly to make sure that our students have what they need and are ready for school. Thank you to all of you for making this the best start yet!
Another thank you for all those families who helped make our Penny Wars a success. We raised over $1700 which will be used to make sure that all of our students will receive a yearbook this spring.
Several people have been having issues with the menu portion of the DMSchools app. Apparently there was an update over the summer that may have dropped some of your settings. To hopefully fix the problem:
1. Open the APP
2. Click on the settings wheel in the upper right corner
3. Go to Windsor
4. Make sure that breakfast and lunch are selected.
We are pleased to offer a Community Flu Clinic this year. It will be on October 23rd, in conjunction with conferences. We feel like this gives many people a convenient option for receiving their flu vaccine. Most insurances are accepted, including Title 19 and Hawk-i.
Have a great October!
Mr. Nichols
Fall Fundraiser
This fundraiser, along with a couple more this school year, will go to support a variety of needs. Previous purchases range from field equipment (nets, balls etc.), to field trips to resources and supplies for teachers. Pastry Puffin order forms went home yesterday. Please turn them in by Friday, October 11th

Here are some free programs we offer at Windsor. If your family is in need of one or multiple programs please contact Ms. Doeden at beth.doeden@dmschools.org or call the office at 242-8440.
- Food Bank of Iowa BackPack Program
From the Food Bank: The Food Bank of Iowa’s BackPack Program is designed to increase access to easy-to-prepare, single servings of food to school-ages children on weekends when school breakfast and lunch is not offered.
- Every Friday, your child will receive a sack filled with kid-friendly foods.
- There is no fee participating in this program. Families are just asked to provide feedback on the program by filling out annual surveys sent home with the child.
- The program operates during the 2019-2020 school year.
- Shoes That Fit
We are given a certain number of slots to provide free tennis shoes to students in our building! Tennis shoes normally get delivered in the late fall and late spring after sizes are reported to the organization.
- Winter Clothing
We are partnering with Simple Church to provide winter coats for students in need. Sizes will be taken of students in need and coats will be delivered late fall.

OASIS = Oakridge Achievers Successful In School Partners With Windsor Students!!
21st Century Community Learning Center
was awarded a 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant (21st CCLC) in 2014.
Through the 21st CCLC grant, Oakridge expanded its after school / out of school
programming to offer even more extended learning opportunities for students grades K-8.
21st CCLC programming includes the use of evidenced-based academic support, educational
enrichment, parent engagement, and family literacy activities, and focuses on improving
academic outcomes and performance in the core areas of reading, math and science.
All Oakridge 21st CCLC programing is aligned with classroom instruction using evidenced-based
academic supports and interventions with licensed teachers retained to provide the academic
components of the program. The program partners with Edmunds Elementary School and
Callanan Middle School, the neighborhood elementary school and regional middle school
serving the students that reside in and around the Oakridge Neighborhood, as well as
Holy Family which also serves a number of Oakridge students. A total of 175 K-8 students are
served at three sites.
With 21st CCLC funds, Oakridge Neighborhood Services has increased the rigor of after school/out
of school academic supports, the frequency of student contacts, provided an expanded portfolio of
educational enrichment activities, and also increased the emphasis on parental engagement and family
literacy. This rigorous programming is facilitated through a 6-day/week “high touch” model aimed at
meeting the academic and educational enrichment needs of high poverty and ELL participants.
