The Benefits of Coding and Programming

With coding and programming driving robotics, these skills will become more essential than ever before. A Oxford University study (PDF) estimates that as many as 47 percent of U.S. jobs could be wholly automated in the next 20 years. Given this, it’s vital to implement robotics heavily into today’s education programs, so that students have a firm grasp of the mechanisms behind it. This will ensure that today’s students keep pace with the rate of innovation, even in the workplace.

As part of this ongoing trend, Stanford University's science labs promote the STEM learning-by-doing process by having their students build liquid-handling robots to automate lab assignments. Using a Lego Mindstorms EV3 robotics kit and a plastic syringe, this DIY robot measures and transfer liquids between flasks, test tubes and experimental dishes at a fraction of the cost of a commercial one (full article). Summer 2017 - Programming Courses

Our Java, Python, C++, Scratch, Robotics and Mobile App Design classes gives students an understanding of how logic translates to code. This rewarding experience will help your son or daughter express their creativity and unlock solutions. Please see individual camp sessions for age recommendations. Camp sessions are limited to 6-8 students each.

We encourage students to bring their own laptop to save their work. Laptops are available for rent for a nominal fee. Please request at registration.

Scratch Programming: Game Design

For our younger campers ages 6 and up, Game Design with Scratch is a great tool to introduce programming concepts using an animated game-making platform to encourage kids to code. Campers will learn about logics, basic commands, and create characters and games that they can share & play with their friends.

Scratch is an versatile open source program taught at both high school and universities levels for beginning programmers.

Coding with C++

C++ is a very powerful programming language that gives the programmer flexibility in writing code. Coding with C++ is a great class for beginners and experienced programmers. Our instructor will cover basic lessons:

  • Using an Integrated Development Environment (IDE).
  • Structure of a program
  • Variables and types
  • Constants
  • Operators
  • Basic Input/Output

We encourage students to bring their own laptop to save their work. Recommended for grades 6-12.
