We are Medlin!
Steps to success for our new Mustangs!
Welcome to the Medlin family!
Medlin has so much to offer! We want the Class of 2025 to be successful. We encourage each of you to get involved in our campus.
How do I get involved? Explore your interests through electives, clubs, Student Council, UIL, Runner’s Club, and other clubs. You can also become involved by attending Medlin events and participating in community service projects. We have a Silver Star Program that you will hear more about throughout the year. Make sure you listen to announcements and look at flyers around the school, so you will know what is going on around campus.
Bring a friend or family to our sporting events and BE A LOUD & PROUD MUSTANG FAN!
6th Grade Survival Tips
Here's a few suggestions to help you make a smoother transition into the middle school life...
- Moving from class to class can be challenging at first, but you get used to it and we are here to help. We suggest talking through your schedule with your parents and determining how to organize your class materials regarding the location of your classes so you don't have to stop at your locker between every class period.
- Find your method for staying organized. If you work well with a planner, pick one out that fits your personality so you can write down your assignments and upcoming tests. If you like everything to be digital, set reminders on your chromebook or phone to stay organized on upcoming assignments/projects.
- Take a picture of your locker combination! Opening your locker will get easier the more you do it. If you're struggling, just ask a teacher for help and we are more than happy to get it open for you those first few weeks.
- Talk to your parents each day about what you learned at school. This will keep your parents in the loop so they can better support you at home.
- Know that your teachers are here to help you and want you to be very successful! All teachers offer a "tutorial time" before school (each have specific days available) for you to come in and ask questions about an assignment or to help you prepare for an upcoming test. We encourage you to take advantage of these opportunities!
- Be friendly and meet new people in each of your classes. All 6th graders are new to Medlin just like you!
- Speak up for yourself! If you don't understand something or if you are unsure about where to go or what to do, just ask! Your teachers care about you and want to see you be very successful this year.
What can be expected on the 1st day of school?
- The first day of school is Monday, August 27th! School hours are 8:50 AM - 4:10 PM.
- Make sure you wear your ID around your neck each and every day, ALL DAY.
- You will receive a new, colored schedule on the first day of school. Although unlikely, there may be a minor change to the schedule you received at Pony Camp due to class sizes, new students, etc.
- 6th graders report to the Small Gym (directly across from the cafetera) every morning until they are dismissed to 1st period. Those choosing to eat breakfast will eat in the cafeteria and then report to the small gym until dismissal.
- Your teachers will let you know which supplies will be needed for each class. We suggest bringing a notebook/journal and something to write with to each class on day 1 so you can write down exactly which supplies you'll need to bring to that specific class.
- Confused about where your next class is? No worries! Staff will be available to assist you in finding your classes.
- Trouble with your locker? Don't stress!! We're here to help! All staff members will be ready to assist you if you need help getting into your locker until you get the hang of it.
LUNCH TIME!
- For the first week of school, we will be walking you through our lunch procedures to ensure everyone understands lunch room expectations.
- For the first day, we ask that you sit down at the tables so we can talk to all of you.
- We have 3 microwaves that you can use if you bring your lunch.
- Our cafeteria provides a variety of options each day if you wish to purchase your lunch.
