Investigate Crimes, prepare cases and testify in court, arrest suspects, observe the activities of suspects.

Average Hours / Working Schedule

Work is usually full time. Paid overtime which is common, Shift work is necessary because protection must be around the clock.

Work Environment

The jobs of some federal agents, such as U.S. Secret Service and DEA special agents, require extensive travel, often on short notice. Police officers and detectives need to be constantly alert and ready to deal appropriately with a number of other threatening scenarios. Depends on where you apply for a job.

  2. The University Of illinois at Chicago offers a bachelors degree in criminology.
