For starters oatmeal is one of the many foods including grains . Others are rice , tortillas ,bread and pasta ,but the grains are in to two groups the whole grains and the

SUBGROUPS TO GRAINS

there are two types of grains there are whole grain and refined grains

WHOLE GRAINS

With whole grain it uses the whole seed the seed includes the bran, germ and endosperm they use the whole seed for foods like whole grain , or whole grain pancakes and mustard

REFINED GRAINS

refined grains are when they mill the the grain so in the process it mills out the bran and germs . this process does not give the grains improved life or texture but it does remove dietary fiber ,iron, and many B vitamins

ONE ONCE

A general once is , 1 slice of bread, 1 cup of ready-to-eat cereal, or ½ cup of cooked rice, cooked pasta, or cooked cereal can be considered as 1 ounce-equivalent from the Grains Group.
