Principal's Message

My one-on-one meetings with students are going very well and confirm that we have amazing learners at PUE. This week I met with students in the following classes:

Ms. Rich

Ms. Owens

Ms. Theret

Ms. McKearney

Students have provided me with important feedback. Common themes among students included their love for the teachers at school and their friends. They enjoy the fun learning opportunities at school. Some suggestions for improvement included the following:

Getting the school painted

Updating the playground

More routine trash pick-up on the playground

One student shared they'd love our school campus to expand so we could have a Pleasant Union Middle School and Pleasant Union High School! I look forward to continuing these meetings over the next few weeks.

Kindergarten Dental Screenings

Annually, our School Health Dental Hygienist looks for healthy smiles by providing kindergarten dental screenings. Please refer to the WCPSS student/parent handbook. Good dental health is important to a student’s overall well-being and affects a child’s success and performance in the classroom.

Hygienists use a flashlight to provide a quick visual screening of the student’s teeth. A letter with the screening results will be sent in student’s school folder ONLY if your child has questionable or obvious dental needs.

Kindergarten dental screenings at PUE will take place on September 3 for Tracks 1, 3, and 4. Dental screenings for Track 2 will take place on September 12.

If you have any questions, please contact the school’s dental hygienist, Marla Jasperse, RDH, at 919-621-2480 or mjasperse@wakegov.com

Lunch

We love to have families come visit during lunch. It is awesome to see the excitement in each child's eyes when mom, dad, or grandparents come at this time! If you join us for lunch and are sitting at the tables in the lobby, please help us by reminding your child to show PAW power by remaining seated during lunch.

PUE PTA News

We hope all of the PUE Families had an awesome Labor Day weekend! The following items highlight the upcoming action items and events!

Memberhub and PTA Membership

Thank you to all of the families that turned in their blue forms and joined the PTA at open house. Our membership is already up to 253 members this year which is awesome! We have set a goal of 550 members so please consider joining if you have not already by clicking the following link: http://pueschool.corecommerce.com/pta-parent-membership. The classroom with the most membership by October 31st will win a Pizza Party!!

Track Shirts

Each student is required to have a colored track shirt (Grades K-3) and a grade level shirt (Grades 4 and 5) in order to attend field trips with their classrooms. The deadline for ordering shirts has passed. The PTA will order extra shirts and will announce when the shirts are available in the school store (while supplies last).

Lego Club

Encourage STEM with your child! Access the following link to join the LEGO club: http://pueschool.corecommerce.com/lego-club. The cost is $10 per student. The meetings occur on the 2nd Tuesday (Grades 3-5) and 2nd Wednesday (Grade K-2) of each month. Lego Club will start on September 10th and 11th for the current school year.

Terracycle Tuesdays

TerraCycle reuses, upcycles, and recycles waste instead of incinerating or landfilling it. This moves waste from a linear system to a circular one, allowing it to keep cycling in our economy. The PUE PTA is partnering with Panthers Give Back and hosting Terracycle Tuesdays at PUE, starting on Tuesday, September 24th. We will have a weekly recycling drive asking for certain acceptable waste to be dropped off during carpool. For each piece of waste we recycle, the PUE PTA earns $0.01. We will be partnering with Tom's of Maine for our first event. You can also sign up at WWW.TERRACYCLE.COMand join free programs. Select Pleasant Union Elementary PTA as your Charity.
