Peek at the Week

February 19-23, 2018

Teacher / Employee of the Year

Can you even believe this is happening already? Mr. Cobbs will be sending out nomination information for teacher and employee of the year and who is eligible in the various categories. Be thinking about who you believe is deserving of this honor.

Auditorium / Morning Expectations

Based on the google form, the majority of you think we should keep the morning procedures as they are. I'm good with this and we can certainly look at other options for next year if need be. Remember that though students should remain quiet, they are encouraged to read or play technology. Students can also complete homework, write or draw.

District Data Meetings

The district's instructional department has asked to come to every school for data meetings. This will take place on Thursday during your planning in my conference room. You don't need anything except a willingness to share. The goal is to have thoughtful and meaningful conversations as a team. Here are some questions that were sent for you to be thinking about.

To the classroom teacher:

  • As you think about your MAP data in Reading and Math, share what has worked for you (strategies) to meet the needs of your students. Share what hasn’t worked, or areas in which you may need more ideas or support.
  • How have you been able to utilize technology into your lessons?
  • Describe interventions in place for your struggling students. Are they working?
  • What percentage of time do you spend teaching whole group/small group instruction in reading and math?
  • What professional development would you like offered for the Anderson Five Summit this August.

Additional topics that came up in the discussions: grouping of students, communication with resource teacher(s), classroom assessments in reading and math, formative classroom assessment, feedback

It is our goal to make all meetings positive and productive. We want to know how we can best support teachers’ efforts to meet the needs of their students.

GRANTS GALORE

Congrats to those who have received grants from Donor's Choose! Don't forget that we have opportunities to through our district's Education Foundation to receive money for classroom support. You received an email last week from Sarah Burns with information about the application process. Applications are due by March 1.

MAP Testing

Be aware that MAP testing will take place in classrooms with chromebooks on March 13 (Math) and March 14 (Reading). If you feel strongly about testing in the lab instead of the classroom, let me know. We want to give your students the most appropriate testing environment possible. Makeup testing will be coordinated by Mrs. Maness again. If you have any feedback or suggestions about the makeup testing process, let us know that as well. The testing window for grades 3-5 closes March 23.
