NEW! 2020-21 Classified Employee of the Year
Congratulations to Heather Ryan, Library Media Technician, for receiving Mesa Verde's Classified Employee of the Year! Heather has been working with Mesa Verde for 9 years and has been with Poway Unified for 12 years. Thank you, Heather, for your hard work and dedication to our students and staff.
NEW! Mayor Todd Gloria Interview
One of Mrs. Kangas’s 8th grade classes has been applying Constitutional amendments to current issues. The class had the opportunity to interview many professionals including a police officer, CHP officer, nurse, CBS news anchor, Union Tribune reporters, dean of nursing school at Samuel Merritt University, and more.
Today they had the unique opportunity to interview San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria. The class is putting together a project that will incorporate all these real life experiences. Thank you to everyone who has supported their work! A special thank you to Mayor Gloria for his time and willingness to talk with the students.
NEW! No Place for Hate - Second Lesson
Mesa Verde’s No Place for Hate Committee, which is made up of students in 6th – 8th grades and staff, have been working hard this year despite the distance learning obstacles. No Place for Hate is a national program that is student-centered and focused on implementing anti-bias and diversity activities school-wide. The Committee has focused on the topic of “bias” this year.
The second lesson is being delivered school-wide during the month of February during social studies classes. Ask your student to share with you what they have learned or their thoughts around the topic of bias.
NEW! District GATE Information
On February 16th the District held an informational meeting for parents to update you on the Gate Program. If you didn’t get a chance to attend, it was recorded. Click here to view it.
Black History Month
Throughout the month of February Mesa Verde will share the accomplishments of African Americans who have helped shape our nation. Black history is about joy, love, and celebrating the genius of those contributions and how our country has benefited. Students will receive frequent emails and posts on our site’s Eagle Canvas page. The library has been expanding our list of books written by African American authors and Mrs. Furtado is eager to share! Our message is one of celebration.

Course Selection for 2021-22 School Year
Mesa Verde has done course selection in mid to late March and we anticipate the same this year. We will be sharing a How To video for course selection as we get closer. Nothing to do at this time.
We are planning for our incoming sixth grade parent information night for March 23. It will be an evening virtual event.
Intradistrict Transfer Requests
For students who live in the PUSD boundaries and would like to attend another PUSD school, PUSD will accept Intradistrict Transfer requests for the 2021-2022 school year from February 1, 2021, at 8 a.m. through March 31, 2021, at 5 p.m. During that time period, there will be a link on the PUSD webpage to submit a transfer request.
For students who live in another school district and would like to attend a PUSD school, PUSD will accept Interdistrict Attendance Permit requests for the 2021-2022 school year starting February 1, 2021. Please note that the document must first be signed by your district of residence before it is submitted to PUSD.
Decisions on transfers are made by the Student Attendance and Discipline Office, not Mesa Verde.
Attention 8th Graders: Preparation for High School
Soon our 8th Grade Families will begin to think about the transition to High School. If you will attend a high school in PUSD, there will be a newsletter coming out with information on all of the virtual family nights and student presentations. Information will include times and virtual links. All student presentations by the high school counselors will be held on March 19th. Students will hear about their future high school and receive information on how to start selecting their courses.
For families who are placing a transfer request, your student needs to attend the high school presentation of the high school that they are slated to attend, not the one they are choosing to transfer to. When they select their courses within synergy, they will need the high school codes for the school they are slated to attend (home location). Don’t worry, all the different schools' virtual presentations will be recorded and accessible on the high school websites.
Student Presentations
March 19th
Family Presentations:
Mt Carmel High School: March 2nd
Westview High School: March 9th
Poway High School: March 16th
Rancho Bernardo High School: March 16th
Del Norte High School: March 23rd
