Congratulations to the Big Band and Jazz Combo on receiving Excellent ratings at the State Jazz Festival!

Special congratulations are in order for the Jazz Combo. Out of the 40 bands that performed, CHS brought one of only 2 combos.

This is a student-led ensemble in which the students write their own arrangements, schedule their own rehearsals, and make all of the musical decisions. They even filled out their own paperwork...

As you know, each year the Combs Education Foundation offers scholarships to our Seniors at Combs High School. This year we are proud to offer over 12 scholarships to our Seniors.

These scholarships are Company/Organizational Scholarships, Leadership Scholarships, and Memorial Scholarships. Attached is a flyer to help promote their applications, which will remain open until Tuesday, April 5th, 4pm. Please share this flyer to students, families and the community. A Social Media presence will also start in the next day or two.

PHOENIX - The Governor's Office of Youth, Faith and Family (GOYFF) is seeking inspiring youth leaders from Arizona high schools to serve on the 2022-2023 Governor's Youth Commission (GYC). The GYC brings together a diverse group of high school students from all fifteen Arizona counties to identify and address the greatest challenges facing Arizona’s youth by developing innovative community impact projects, establishing partnerships with young leaders across the state, and advising the Governor.

Commissioners are selected through a competitive application process. If you know a high school student with a passion for service and leadership, please share this unique opportunity to serve as an ambassador in a nationally recognized leadership program! Applicants must be a sophomore, junior, or senior student during the 2022-2023 school year.

Applications are currently being accepted until June 3, 2022 at 5:00 PM from Arizona youth in all fifteen counties.

The FAFSA is the most important tool available to finance your education, and while the term may be familiar, some don't know what it means. What does FAFSA stand for? It stands for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. If there's one thing you need to know about it, it's this: You don't have to be intimidated.

The FAFSA is an application that the federal government uses to gather the financial information it needs to assess what loans and grants you qualify for. Although you are applying for federal aid, the process is coordinated through the school or schools you plan to apply to.

According to Forbes, it's estimated over $100 million in college scholarship money goes unclaimed every year. Did you know students can search and apply for scholarships in MajorClarity? Yep, it's a one-stop-shop for students and parents to apply for hundreds of scholarships nationwide, or locally, such as the Education Foundation scholarships recently sent out by Dr. Duplissis.

To help students find and apply for scholarships, have them follow these simple steps:

1. Login into MajorClarity.com using the "Continue with Google" option.
2. Select "Financial Resources' form the options on the left side of the screen
3. Use the search tool or scroll though the scholarships listed. For local scholarships, choose the "Show only Local Scholarships" box. This will narrow the scholarship list.

PeerSquared is a social benefit education company bringing accessible, effective, and relatable academic support to your students through community-based peer tutoring programs. They have partnered with Combs High School to build such a program and offer FREE peer tutoring to the students it serves. In this case, peer tutoring is defined as when a trained high school tutor provides 1-on-1 help to another K-12 student. The tutors are always from the same school or community.

Support, however and whenever you need it.

Did you know that the J.O. Combs Unified School District receives federal funding for your child's school based on the income eligibility of our families? We need you to confirm your income eligibility to help ensure our schools do not lose important funding that directly benefits our students. The process takes less than five minutes and can be completed online. Please note, you do not have to disclose your actual income, you will simply have to select if you qualify for an income bracket.

Currently, federal funding from Title I supports several critical functions for your students, including instructional coaches, reading specialists, and other personnel who provide direct instruction. Help us ensure your child's school still receives this funding by verifying your income!

Supply Chain Challenges: The Covid-19 pandemic has led to unforeseen issues with our supply chain, resulting in food shortages and last-minute menu substitutions. Our goal is to serve the posted/planned menu each day, but current circumstances are making this a challenge. We are working closely with our food distributors and vendors during this unprecedented time. We will do our best to communicate and update our online menu as soon as any substitutions are made. Please remember the menu is subject to change. Thank you for your understanding.

The Titan Family Portal is a our new secure online system for convenient access and a user-friendly experience in managing meals at school.

The Titan Family Portal allows families/staff to:

• Submit an online application for free and reduced meals
• See menus, allergens and nutritional information
• Remotely monitor children's cafeteria meal accounts
• Make online payments to children's cafeteria accounts
• Set up automatic, recurring payments
• Set up low account balance email or text alerts
