The absolute location of Austin, Texas is 30 degrees 16' N, 97 degrees 44' W.
The relative location of Austin, Texas is Central Texas and American Southwest.

Austin's elevation is varies from 425 feet to 1,000 feet above sea level. The city is a total area of 271.8 square miles. Approximately 6.9 square miles of this area is water. The eastern side is mostly flat, but the western side has many hills. That is what is known as "Texas Hill Country". Because the hills to the west are limestone rock, some of the city is subjected to flash floods from the runoff caused by thunderstorms.
