Corley Celebrates African American History Month
African American History Month will be an exciting month of learning at Corley Elementary School. Faculty staff and students started the month by decorating the doors with historical figures. Pictorial highlights of great moments in African-American history have been posted throughout the building.
We want to say thank you to our guest from the American Express Corporation who visited our media center to read books by and about African Americans to our students. The 5th grade students will have the opportunity to visit with the Beauty Baldwin on February 26th. She is the first African American Superintendent of a School System in Georgia. She will hopefully inspire leadership in our students as she shares her journey and dedication of service. In addition to the speakers and door decorating, each morning on the news show, we have featured a segment titled "Young African Americans Making Waves In History." Selected students have conducted research on the contributions of young African Americans and shared facts about the journey of these individuals.
