WELCOME TO THE WEEK OF MAY 10-14
Important Reminders For May 10-14
**THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO DONATED TO OUR PLAYGROUND FUNDRAISER!!!!
**We will begin our STAR Reading Assessment Benchmarks this week. Please make sure your child is getting plenty of rest each night so they can do their BEST!
**Please look for the most recent sight word list located in your child's yellow folder in the plastic sleeve. Please don't remove these. Highlighted words are words your child currently can read. It is front and back. Please help us help your child with non-highlighted words. We'll update these as we progress this month. Recognition of these words will help your child be a more successful reader. We are so proud of our students' reading progress! Thank you for your help! Keep up the great work!
**Library books will be due this week.
**May 17th-Kindergarten Awards Day (for our class) in gym at 2:15 (more details to come).

Nightly Homework Practice
**Students need to practice recognizing/reading their Weekly Words words each night. We will have recognition tests on Fridays on these words. Sight word recognition is very important-90% of texts students read are sight words (words that cannot be sounded out).
**We are excited to begin a new spelling routine. Your child will have 5-10 "word family/CVC words" to learn how to spell each week. There will be a simple exercise to complete each night with the words. We will send home the work for the entire week on Mondays. Your child has all week to complete them. It shouldn't take longer than 5-10 minutes to complete. The completed assignments can remain in your child's homework folder until Friday. We will check for completed assignments on Friday and give prizes for completion. Your child will also have a spelling test on those 5 words on Friday.
