A Holiday Reflection
Dear Cougar Family,
I think there are very few things in life, if any, that are better than having a one year-old and a three year-old at Christmastime. This has always been my favorite time of year, but seeing each decoration come out of the boxes through Walt's eyes added a new layer of magic and enchantment. The decor on the bottom of the tree is a bit sparse since Willa "un-decorates" as quickly as we can put it back on, and no manger scene is safe from becoming Walt's next set of action figures. Yet, amidst the chaos, there are two sets of little feet pattering everywhere. And Christmas pajamas. And it is wonderful.
As I type, Willa is seated beside me on the couch. She is playing alphabet games on the iPad. (Yes, I am violating all recommendations by the American Pediatric Association.) When she gets the letter correct, she laughs and claps her hands. For her, right now, learning is highly interactive, individualized, and fun! I can't help but think about what school will be like for my kids, these little "digital natives" who will not know life totally "unplugged" (or life without cell phones, and iPads, and voice command home automation). By the time they enter high school in eleven years or so, what will it be like? What things should be the same? What things should be different?
Please take a moment to think about the future of public education. What are the non-negotiables for you? How can we be sure to forge the path in the direction that is right for the next generation of our students?
I hope that each of you had a restful and happy Thanksgiving break! I am soaking up my last few vacation moments with my family, and I hope you all are, too! Have an excellent week!
As always, COUGAR PRIDE!
Tiffany
