Duties for the week of May 16

MORNING DUTY: Karly, Julie Stoehr, Kim Bowden, Cissy

SPECIAL CLASS: Week 2--- or See alternate specials schedules for Tues, Wed, and Thurs.

YEE HAWS!!!!! = 39

Thank you, Brandon and Kim Bowden

I want to give two very special shout outs. Many thanks to Brandon and Kim Bowden for joining our staff this school year. You have positively impacted students and staff here at North and we are forever grateful. Kim Bowden will continue to teach Reading Recovery next year, but will move to a title 1 building, since the program will not be offered at North next year. Brandon's position at North was only for one year since our fourth section moves up to 6th grade. He has decided to pursue a paraprofessional position in the district for next year rather than accepting one of the teaching positions in another building as his responsibilities with his church are large. Both of you will be missed- but remember- once a Northie- always a Northie! You are welcome here anytime!

Sing off

AH- Mazing! Thanks for making our kids stars, Amy Backes!

Don’t throw away your car rider hangtags! Just a reminder that we will only be providing hangtags to our kindergarteners and new families next year. Replacement hangtags for those lost will be available for $1 each. You can help to be sure they are easily readable in the fall by tracing over your name with a black permanent marker. Please use all capital letters and use the whole space provided so that it will be easily readable. Store your hangtags in your glove compartment so that they are protected from light and kept safe until next school year. Thanks for your help!

Lost and Found

Please walk students by the lost and found a couple of times between now and the end of the year and remind parents to check when they are here for assemblies and activities. Anything left on May 19 after students leave will be donated to charity.

Character Plus Read Alouds

Our "Forgiving" study ends on Friday, May 13. After you read the character book aloud next Friday, please send it to the office. We'll start up again next year!

End of the Year Awards to Record on Cumulative Files

A good question was asked: What awards should be recorded on the yellow cumulative file? Please be sure to record the following awards at a minimum:

  • Reading Circle
  • Math Hall of Fame
  • SRO Award (all quarters)
  • Central Bank Citizenship Award
  • All 5th grade awards presented at promotion

Fourth Quarter Grade Cards

Are you ready? The grade card window will open on Friday, May 13 at 7:00 am. Classroom and specials teachers, please let Carey know when you are finished with your grade cards so that once all are posted she can start the printing process. The grade card window closes at 7:00 am on Tuesday, May 17. Once a classroom is completely finished (specials too) they can be printed. Carey will run two copies for you: one to send home and one for you to put in the purple folder of each student’s cumulative file. Thanks so so much!

Brag Tag Assemblies- May 16

Information regarding seating for brag tag assemblies is in your mailbox today. It is our usual routine. Don't forget to come in to the assembly alphabetically by teacher's last name so that when I call names, parents will be able to get pictures.

Year-End Student Celebrations: Jen and Karly's students

Jen and Karly will celebrate with their students on Monday, May 16:

Grades K-1: 2:15-2:45 pm

Grades 2-3: 1:45-2:15 pm

Grades 4-5: 1:15-1:45 pm

Fifth Grade Promotion- May 17

Students in grades k-4 will not attend the 5th grade promotion assembly this year. If you are interested in attending the assembly, you need to work with co-workers to compromise about supervision/assembly attendance. (There needs to be a minimum of 2 staff with 3 classes- see me if you have questions regarding that.) Teachers who are attending the assembly, please talk with those supervising your class and help with any plans for the supervision. There will be some siblings of 5th graders who will want to attend. PARENTS MAY COME TO THE ROOM, GET SIBLINGS, AND THEY CAN TAKE THEM TO THE ASSEMBLY WITH THEM. Parents will be responsible for the supervision of younger siblings in the assembly.

Please do not go to the park during the 5th grade assembly….there will be too much traffic.

If you are attending the assembly and you need me to reserve you a staff seat, please let me know by Friday, May 13 by 3:00. (This includes support staff, non-classroom teachers, and K-4 classroom teachers.)

Sports Day School Schedule- May 18

A sports day school schedule and notes are in your mailbox today. Attached to classroom teacher information is a class list to be used for parents who sign students out after Sports Day. We won't be able to manage that from the office, so parents who volunteer for Sports Day will pick up students from the classrooms. Don't forget to have the parent sign next to their child's name and include the time the child leaves. Please turn these in to Carey before you leave on May 18.

Sometime soon, you should receive more specific details from PTO regarding the activities. Please be sure to read the rules of the games in advance and discuss them with your class on Wednesday morning.

Summer School Meeting

Just a reminder that the summer school meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 18 beginning at 3:30 in the library. Summer school staff should plan to stay along with Janna, Fariba, Kourtney, and Laura.

Summer School

Students WILL be able to take SRC quizzes over the summer. That is something that could be included on summer school goal sheets, particularly for students who are needing enrichment goals.

Summer School Substitutes

If you are interested in being a summer school substitute, please let me know by the end of the day on Friday, May 13. Thanks!

Refrigerator and Freezer Clean Out

Please be sure to clean out the freezer and refrigerator in the lounge of your personal items. Please take care of this by Thursday, May 19. We will start pitching on May 19!

Anything that has an expiration date of June, July, or August will be pitched.

Important Information for 2016-2017

There have been some changes to our three contracted days prior to school starting for 2016-2017 that I need to put on your radar before you leave for summer break.

  • Teachers who are not under an extended contract because they have been in the district less than three years will return for 3 work days beginning on Monday, August 15.
  • As far as I know, opening session will be on Monday, August 15.
  • ELEMENTARY OPEN HOUSE IS ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 16 FROM 5:00-7:00 PM THIS YEAR. A lot of discussion has occurred regarding the things that need to be done AFTER the open house in order to be truly ready for the first day of school and so this date has been changed this year.
  • Sometime during those three days, there will be potentially 4-6 hours of PD at each building focused around ICLE and the district behavior supports that will be put in place.

All of you are SO conscientious about having your rooms ready and preparing for our kiddos that I wanted you to know what those three days might hold so you can plan accordingly. Sometimes knowing allows us to plan ahead so it isn't stressful and overwhelming.
