On the Move
Dallas ISD Student Transportation Services
November 10, 2022
Veterans Day November 11, 2022
On Veterans Day we honor our service members and veterans and remember the sacrifices they have made and the courage it takes to defend honor, duty, and country. We honor our heroes, to remember their achievements, their dedication, and to say thank you for their sacrifices.
We have several veterans in Student Transportation Services - In addition to all the other Veterans, please thank these fine individuals for their service when you see them on Friday. You may also show your appreciation on Friday by wearing your favorite shirt, hat, etc. honoring your favorite branch of service - as long as it does not display any guns / artillery.

Student Transportation Services is Going Electric
DISD is one of 13 Texas districts receiving funds for this program thanks to a grant that was written by Bryant Shaw, Manager of Sustainability Services in the Dallas ISD Maintenance Department.
While the buses may be on their way, much work has to take place before they are put into operation. Dallas ISD is currently working on the infrastructure (charging stations) needed to be able to put these buses into service as well as training for the technicians on how to service these vehicles. This means there may be a delay before we see these buses on the roads.
Welcome Aboard
Keshunia Johnson is replacing Dr. Angel Vales at the Kleberg Service Center. Keshunia has a background as coach, teacher and in counseling services. She holds a master's degree from Lamar University, and she has experience driving a school bus. Dr. Vales left Dallas ISD to become the new Assistant Superintendent of Technology in Austin ISD.
Dr. J Matt Whitaker is replacing Dennis Johnson at the North Dallas Service Center. Dr. Whitaker has a Doctoral degree from Dallas Baptist University and has extensive administrative experience including principal. Dennis Johnson left Dallas ISD to a similar role in a neighboring school district.
Additionally, we would like to welcome Calvin Rayford to the North Dallas Service Center as its newest Special Services Supervisor. Calvin is an experienced CDL Driver and brings a wealth of knowledge to his new role.
Giving Thanks for Driving Student Success

Letter of Concern / Summary of Conference / Letter of Reprimand
Summary of Conference, Letter of Concern, Letter of Reprimand
There is ongoing confusion with the difference among these three types of letters/ memo’s employees may receive.
Summary of Conference (SOC)– is a letter provided to the employee as type of “receipt” that a meeting happened, and it is supposed to capture that which was discussed. The summary of conference is as useful to the employee as it is for the supervisor. The SOC is NOT a punishment.
Letter of Concern – (LOC) is a letter written by a supervisor to an employee letting the employee know that there is a “concern” with what may appear to be an ongoing issue – such as an employee starting to show signs of a pattern with absences such as being absent every Wednesday. The LOC typically contains a directive from the supervisor letting the employee to stop the undesired behavior or action.
Letter of Reprimand (LOR) is a letter written by a supervisor to an employee when the employee has either violated policy or has failed to follow a directive.Using the Restrooms at School Campuses
DISD employees are able to use the restroom at any DISD building, however, each building may have their own set of rules which govern the campus or location. The standard practice is for all employees who do not work at the designated location to enter through the front of the building, show their badge and sign in at the office.
Keep in mind, while we are all employees of the district, we are still guests at someone else’s place of business, and we need to follow their rules.

Additional Information on Overtime
The 20% rule of overtime is in policy, DEA (REGULATION). All overtime requires authorization by the employee’s supervisor.
Employees should have the flexibility to hit their 20% at their discretion with the understanding that once they reach 20% overtime opportunities will no longer be made as readily available unless there is an extenuating circumstance as determined by the department.
Supervisors can meet with employees who are approaching the 20% mark to inform them they are quickly reaching their limit. A Summary of Conference should be provided by the supervisor to the employee as a record of the meeting.
The Summary of Conference is not a disciplinary measure.
