Walker Students Are Shown the Money at the ACE Awards Banquet
Two students representing WCC were BIG winners at the Architecture, Engineering, Construction (ACE) Virtual Awards Banquet held on Tuesday, May 12. Senior Francisco Izaguirre received a $4,000 scholarship award from ACE, and junior, Jacob Smith received $2,000. The scholarships are awarded directly to the students to be used in their pursuit of post-secondary education. Special thanks to ACE sponsors Allegion and Turner Construction for underwriting these amazing scholarships.
Francisco Izaguirre has been accepted at Ball State University and will pursue a degree in architecture. After he graduates next year, Jacob Smith plans to pursue an education in construction management.
The ACE Mentoring program is an after school program that introduces students to careers in architecture, construction, engineering and other disciplines. It is driven by the committed and enthusiastic participation of volunteer mentors who are practicing professionals in their respective fields. Students meet every two weeks for two semesters. During the first semester, students visit various construction, engineering, and architectural sites. The second semester is devoted to completing a group design project. This year's project was to design a college residence hall. Below are some photos of the group's renderings. The ACE Sponsors at WCC are Mr. Kevin Gogel and Mrs. Janet Banks.
