From your School Support Specialist/ Social Worker
Thank you to all the families that attended our Family Forum Night in April. We highlighted one of our Indianapolis family agencies called STOPOVER. STOPOVER was created over 40 years ago to assist Indianapolis families and empower youth in crisis through shelter, transitional living and family support. They are available for emergency care for teens ages 12-17. They are the only youth serving organization to provide comprehensive 24 hour crisis intervention services that are SAFE, VOLUNTARY, FREE, and accepts referrals from any source. Should you need STOPOVER services or know someone who might, please call Courtney Modisette, MS at (317) 635-9301. They can help!
Summer Learning Tips
No matter their age, it's important for all kids to keep learning over the summer. This tip sheet will show families some ways to keep youth learning over the summer. NSLA also has tips to keep kids active and healthy and ideas for learning at home and in your community. Click the link to see all of NSLA's resources for families! Also, communities' participation in National Summer Learning Day sends a powerful message across the nation that summers matter and offers your community an opportunity to showcase that summer learning can and does make a difference in the lives of young people. Check out NSLA's resources for communities.
You can help your child get a great head start to their college planning. The 21st Century Scholars scholarship provides up to four years of undergraduate tuition at any participating public college or university in Indiana. If your child attends a private or an independent college, the state will award an amount comparable to that of a public college. If your child attends a participating proprietary (for-profit) school, the state will award a tuition scholarship equal to that of Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana.
Time is running out for our current 8th graders. The deadline to apply is June 30th of their 8th grade year. You can apply online at http://scholars.in.gov/parents/enroll/
or complete an application worksheet and turn it in to Mrs. Nicholson by June 1st.
Feel free to contact her, if you need a worksheet.

Important Information Regarding the Boys & Girls Club Program at Stonybrook
Dear Club Families,
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis is proud to have provided after school programs in several Warren Township schools for more than 10 years. We are sad to share that on May 18th, the Boys & Girls Club will celebrate it's last day of serving young people at Stonybrook Intermediate & Middle School. In 2016, we opened our newest Boys & Girls Club facility, the Finish Line Club, located at 3870 N. Post Road, to expand our services to more families in this community. We welcome you to check out the Finish Line Club and hope you will join us there for our summer and after school programs.
We thank you for the opportunity to work with you and your children this school year. We invite you to join us for a closing celebration in May. The date, time, and details of this celebration will be determined and shared with you soon.

Fun with Science!
It’s exciting to be in science at SMS. Both 7th & 8th grade are in the Life Science unit, which means the students get to use microscopes! Students will be looking at various slides that vary from bone tissue to plant cells to a butterfly leg.
Ms. Hobbs students will be learning about genetics and heredity as they create a superhero baby. Wonder what traits Spider Man and Wonder Woman’s child will have? I look forward to this project because the students alway get excited and have so much fun
