A note from Mrs. Johansen
We had a terrific first three days of school! It's amazing how much energy and life the students bring with them as they arrive at school each day. Each day this week, we reviewed systems that help us be our best selves and be ready to learn each day. Classes participated in the PBIS station rotations on Wednesday and Thursday. They visited various locations around the building to learn expectations and routines that are designed to maintain an orderly and safe environment for all. We will continue to support all students in these areas as we move through the year.
It was great to see everyone at the Back to School Picnic tonight! A little rain didn't hold us back from having a great time!
As you know, the safety and security of our school is one of my highest priorities. Throughout the year, we practice many safety drills to ensure staff and students know what to do in the event of an emergency. Today, we are had Safety Drill Day. This included a Shelter-In-Place Drill, Lockdown Drill, and Fire Drill. The Palatine Police were present for the lockdown drill. They were complimentary of our staff and student performance in the drill.
This weekend, I encourage you to talk with your children about their experiences at school and the importance of having these drills at school. We tell your children that we are practicing so that we know what to do if an emergency does happen.
Next week, we will be practicing bus evacuation drills. This will occur on Wednesday, August 21st at 9 a.m. We will also have a drill for the afternoon Kindergarten and ECDEC students after their arrival.
All Sanborn staff and students will participate in these drills, even if they do not ride on the bus to school. It's important that all students feel prepared in the event of an emergency on the school bus.
If you ever have any questions about these safety drills, do not hesitate to contact me.
We start our Fall MAP testing next week. All students in grades 2-6 will take the Math and Reading Assessment. Your child's teacher can give you specifics about the testing days and times. You can help support your child by making sure they get a good night's sleep and healthy breakfast/snacks to start their day.
We look forward to seeing all parents at our Parent Orientation on Wednesday night. Lots of important information is shared that evening and you have the opportunity to get the first pick of conference times in November.
Have a great weekend!
Fondly,
Erika Johansen
