5th Grade Honors & Recognition
Anderson Mill Elementary School Class of 2020
A Message from Mrs. Foster
Congratulations, Fifth Grade Students! You did it! You have completed your last year of elementary school! I would have never imagined that your final days would look so different. However, I am very proud of how well you have handled these difficult times. I know there were several events that you were looking forward to, from Field Day, Barrier Island, Yearbook Day, and even your Fifth Grade Graduation and dance. I wish I could change these current events for you, but that's not what you have been dealt. I want you to remember that as you move on to middle school, you will face adversity that you were not expecting. You will deal with difficult challenges. So, remember what you learned during your time at Anderson Mill:
- Share
- Play nice
- Don't take things that are not yours
- Give people the benefit of the doubt
- Say you are sorry
- Forgive
- Flush
- Work hard
- Choose kindness
- Love one another, and most of all...
- Wash your hands!
I know you will all do great things with grit and determination! Please know my door is always open to you. I love you all!
Congratulations,
Mrs. Beth Foster

The American Citizenship Awards are given to students that consistently are mindful of doing the right thing—no matter the situation or who is involved. These boys and girls went above and beyond to be kids of integrity this school year. Congratulations to the following students:
Perfect Attendance
Principal Character Awards
Deborah C. Philbeck Literacy Award
When our school was built, our very first principal was Mrs. Deborah Philbeck. Mrs. Philbeck was our fearless leader for many years and she started many of the traditions we still practice today. One such tradition was the slogan “Readers are Leaders” that is recited every morning on our news program. She left a lasting mark on our school through her love and passion for literacy. When she retired, the Deborah C. Philbeck Literacy Award was created in her honor. This literacy award is for a fifth grade student who earns the highest score on Renaissance STAR, which is a nationally normed reading test, and demonstrates a genuine love of reading. We are pleased to announce Sydney Murphy is the 2019-2020 recipient of the Deborah C. Philbeck Literacy Award. Congratulations, Sydney!
