Wolf Creek Elementary School Candidate Statements (Spring 2019)
Parents
1. Josie Brown:
I wish to serve on Wolf Creek’s School Governance Council, because ensuring our students have a safe and welcoming learning environment means the most to me. I am no stranger to service, and can be seen frequently throughout the school volunteering in some form. Please consider me for your next parent SGC candidate.
2. Erica Taylor:
My name is Erica Taylor and I am a mother of 3. My oldest is 5 years old and I want to give my child, along with every other child, in our school the best educational experience possible. I’m not sure how to do this but I feel like being present and taking part in things such as SGC is a step in the right direction. Before my son started school I was completely unaware how in depth and how involved parents must be to ensure our children are receiving a quality education. Well I want to ensure that all of our children receive a quality educational foundation.
3 Cheri-Ann Taylor:
Parental involvement is essential to a child’s development. I have practiced this since early in my son’s and have served as the Vice-President of the Sheltering Arms PTO. I came right into Wolf Creek with the same volunteer spirit. I believe we should lend or talents to our community and I love the field of education. I wish to take my 13 years of experience as a School Psychologist with integrating student achievement data into individual learning plans and bring that to the Wolf Creek Elementary School Governance Council. The SGC serves in the capacity of monitoring the direction of goals set by the school. Currently, I serve in a District Leadership role that affords me the opportunity to set SMART goals and measure student and program progress at individual schools. I love what Wolf Creek has done for my child and would love to be a part of continuous growth.
Teachers
1. Chabrina Derrico:
I have been teaching for 5 years and have served in first, second and third grades in Fulton County. I am dedicated to serving students and all stakeholders at Wolf Creek Elementary. I have a passion to make a difference by positively impacting all students’ lives.

Nurturing Literacy: The Importance of Creating Lifelong Readers
Inferencing! Synthesizing! Phonological Awareness! The list of important literacy terms floating around can seem endless. As a parent, it may be hard to keep track of everything your child needs to know and understand to be a successful reader. The good news is that research shows that the amount of independent reading done by students both at school and at home is one of the most important predictors of school success. Independent reading refers to the reading students choose to do on their own. This reading is done for pleasure or to learn more information on a self-selected topic. At Wolf Creek, a love for independent reading is fostered by providing students with opportunities to select a wide variety of texts at their current reading level. This approach naturally creates an environment where self-selected independent reading is a daily routine and, if you do the same, can help you foster a love for reading with your child at home. A love for reading always leads to increased reading!

Thanks for working with us to ensure safety for the students.
BIRTHDAY PARTIES
While we understand the importance of birthdays, we cannot have individual birthday parties during the instructional day in the classroom. All student birthdays are recognized by the school through our morning announcements, birthday ribbons and/or tokens. In order to maximize instructional time and to minimize interruptions, your child can be recognized for his/her birthday during his/her lunch period only. One small treat such as pre-wrapped, store bought cupcakes or ice cream cups is acceptable. Please refrain from bringing food, party favors, balloons, large cakes, etc. Parents may contact your child's teacher to make arrangements for a small lunch treat.
CAFETERIA
The school cafeteria offers several choices of nutritional, well-balanced meals each day. In addition to the regular hot food lines, salads are available. Breakfast is served from 7:10 a.m. until 7:35 a.m. each school day.
Student cost for breakfast is: $1.05
Student cost for lunch is: $2.45
Adult cost for breakfast is: $1.55
Adult cost for lunch is: $3.45
Weekly purchases may be prepaid on Monday mornings or purchased on a daily basis. Students are encouraged to pre-pay for the week rather than on a daily basis. Students are not permitted to charge lunches more than three times. A student may charge again when the three charges are paid in full. ALL students must complete a new application within the first 30 days of school. Failure to so will result in irreversible charges to the student account.
Parents may sign up for online lunch payments at Visit www.MyPaymentsPlus.com
More information regarding Fulton County Schools’ Nutrition program can be found at: http://www.fultonschools.org/en/divisions/ops/Nutrition/Pages/default.aspx
You are welcome to join your child for lunch in the cafeteria at his/her scheduled lunch time. A visitor’s pass from the main office is required. If you would like to purchase a school lunch, the cost is $3.45 for adults. You may bring your child a lunch of your choosing. Outside restaurant packaging is not allowed in the cafeteria but you may choose to place items in a different container or have lunch in another designated area with your child. Due to the safety of all students and to avoid any allergic reactions, parents/guests may not bring or share any snacks or food items of any kind with other students.
Thanks for your support!
Our School Day Start/End Times
Thanks in advance for your support in ensuring that our students get to school each day on time and ready for instruction.
