Mental Health Awareness Month
Suicide. It is a difficult topic and conversation to have, but did you know suicide is the second leading cause of death among individuals between the ages of 10-24 years of age (Center for Disease Control, 2018).
How to address suicide:
- If a child (or anyone) comes forward that they are thinking about hurting themselves, listen openly.
- Ask [age appropriate] questions
- Adult: Have you ever thought about suicide? Or taking your own life?
- Adolescent: Are you thinking of hurting yourself?
- Children: If you could have one wish right now, what would it be?
- Listen to the child’s answer. If a child is having suicidal ideations, their answer may be something like this: “I wish I can sleep forever and not wake up.”
- Seek professional help
If you or love one is experiencing or having suicidal thoughts, call 911 or report to your nearest hospital. In addition, if you or a love one needs support at any given moment related to your mental health and/or have suicidal thoughts, help is available by texting 741741.

News To Share
- Lost and Found: Our lost and found table, located by the cafeteria, is overflowing again. We have lots of coats and sweatshirts that are looking for their owner. Please ask your learner to come to the office and look for anything that they have lost.
- Lost Students: The purpose of school is learning. Learning happens in our classrooms Most students are already in the habit of being in class. Our students know that they must have the student planner signed by a teacher as their hall pass permission. For a few who are causing distraction by leaving without permission, we will be giving one warning, contacting families if the problem persists and issuing citations for loitering. To prevent students leaving class, our school resource officer, Sgt. Krock will be patrolling hallways on an increased frequency. Thank you for helping us focus on learning by inviting students to stay in class during learning time.
- Cell Phones- If students bring their cell phones to school, our policy is that cell phones need to be kept in student's locker for the duration of the day. If students do not follow this policy they will be asked to put their cell phone in their locker or the cell phone will be brought to the office. We are asking loved ones to remind students of this policy.
