Mrs. Downs News & Such

A snapshot of all the happenings in our class.

School Days

Its hard to believe that we are almost through our 3rd six weeks. We have been working hard on our letters, sounds, numbers and sight words. I sent home a list of the sight words we have learned so far. Please review them with your children because they will be tested over them in the next two weeks. We are also writing words according to the sounds that we hear. Some of my students have asked if they can have an "ABC chart" to keep at home, because they want to work on writing their words at home. This thrills me to no end. So if you see a colorful ABC chart in their folder, please encourage them to write letters to friends and family for more practice on writing phonetically. At this point we are not worried about spelling as much as writing the sounds the word makes.

We just finished up our Gingerbread man unit, and had a lot of fun making gingerbread people. They are beautifully displayed in our hallway. We will still be doing reading and writers workshop up until our break. This constant practice will help us become great readers and writers.

Please keep sending snacks, as that is one of their favorite times of the day. They are working hard everyday and need the extra energy to help get them through.

We are doing a food drive for the Brazos Food Bank ~ Students can bring non-perishable food or monetary donations to help those who may need it during this holiday season.

We are learning about serving our community by encouraging participation in the Candy Cane Fun Run that will be from 9:30 - 10:30 this Saturday. Come by to see Santa, get a cup of coffee or hot chocolate and run a few laps for the cause!

Our holiday party will be Dec. 19th at 8:30. If you are able to send a $5 donation, please send it by Dec. 10th.
