Monk Fryston Weekly News 24.3.23

The school target for next week is;

remember to be kind, safe and fair.

Comic Relief - Thank you!

Thank you to everyone who supported our Comic Relief day last week. Between Monk Fryston & Saxton Schools we raised a huge £469.90. Thanks you as always for your continued support.

Big Walk and Wheel.

Thanks for supporting the Big Walk and Wheel this week. Our school is doing incredibly well! At the halfway stage we are 254th in the entire UK (60th in the North of England). This is a great effort – keep it up!

Dates for your diary.

Sports Day this year will be on the afternoon of Wednesday 7th June. The Key Stage 2 production will be on 19th & 20th July.

School Calendar

Don't forget to check the school calendar regularly. We have lots going on and don't want you to miss anything. https://monkfryston.n-yorks.sch.uk/calendar/

Makeup & Lip Balms

We have noticed that some older children are bringing coloured lip gloss and makeup into school. Whilst we are happy for children to bring in clear lip balm, we do not allow makeup of any kind and children will not be permitted to use this in school.

Singing Festival 31st March - Parents welcome.

There won’t be a Golden Book assembly on 31st March because some of our older children are organising a singing festival that day. Parents are welcome to come along to watch this at 2.30pm.

Beer Festival - Can you help?

The Beer Festival is an amazing event that raises a great deal of money for our school (last year this was £8000). They are currently planning the event for this September and are seeking the involvement of parents in planning the event, particularly in the areas of identifying entertainment, and managing social media. This is a great opportunity to make a contribution and shape the festival this year. You do not need to be a member of the PTA or have involvement in any other activities, just the enthusiasm to be involved. If you are interested please speak to Mr Weights or a member of the Beer Fest committee.

Free school meals for all years for pupils whose families receive financial support.

If you are in receipt of certain benefits, your child could also qualify for free school meals during all school years. To qualify you must be receiving:

  • Universal Credit, provided you have an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400, as assessed by earnings from up to three of your most recent assessment periods (£616.67 per month)

  • Income Support

  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance

  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance

  • Support under part six of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

  • The guarantee element of Pension Credit

  • Child Tax Credit, provided you are also not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual household gross income that does not exceed £16,190 (as assessed by HMRC)

  • Working Tax Credit run-on, paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit

Please note that contributions-based benefits, including contribution-related Jobseekers' Allowance do not entitle you to claim free school meals.

Apply for free school meals

You will receive an instant decision on whether your application is successful. If it is, we will fully process the application in 5 working days and notify the school. Once the school has received this your child can begin enjoying free school meals. You should continue to pay until confirmation comes through. Schools may be able to arrange reimbursement of payment made while your entitlement is being confirmed.

Free school meals claims cannot be backdated. They are awarded from the date we receive the application, once eligibility is confirmed. This is because there is a legal requirement for a request to be made, before a free school meal can be provided. If you are not entitled to free school meals, you will be notified in writing.
