It's your last chance before break to order TRIP, so be sure to remember all those stocking stuffers and the things you will need for the holidays, like gas, groceries, and Target, Walmart, and Amazon for purchasing those last minute gifts! Orders will be in on Thursday, so you even have time to order teacher gifts. Ask your friends and family to order through you, and watch those tuition credits grow!
Vote for Your Favorite Door! #deckthedoors '19
Our teachers spent a lot of time and creativity on their doors this year! We only have one week to rack up the "likes" in our annual #deckthedoors competition--vote for your favorite door by liking its photo in the Facebook album! The teacher with the winning door will win something special for her classroom, so be sure to spread the word and share the album! Voting will close on December 19 at Midnight.
School Board Meeting
WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 18, 7:00 p.m. in the PARISH OFFICE
School Board meetings are open to all. We are looking for a few new members, so if you are interested in seeing the Board in action, please come to the meeting.
Pajama Day & Early Dismissal
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 20
Please wear your snuggliest pajamas to school on Friday! We will enjoy a milk and cookies snack compliments of our HSA, and dismissal will be at 11:30 a.m. A fun sendoff to Christmas Break!
Posada
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 21, 6:00 p.m. in CHURCH
Las Posadas, (Spanish Translation: The Inns) is a religious tradition celebrated in Mexico and some parts of the United States commemorating the journey that Joseph and Mary made from Nazareth to Bethlehem in search of a safe refuge where Mary could give birth to the baby Jesus. When they were unable to find lodging in Bethlehem, Joseph and Mary were forced to seek shelter in a stable, where the Christ Child was born. At dusk, a procession of the faithful with lighted candles goes from door to door seeking posada while singing traditional songs. The children are often dressed as angels and shepherds.
For our Posada evening, we will gather in Church and songs will start at 6:00 p.m., followed by the Rosary. Then we will all go over to the Parish Hall to share hot drinks and break the piñata.
To donate sweets or candies for small treat bags and the piñata (dulces para Aguinaldo y pinata), please send contributions to the School Office marked "Posada." Other donations for the evening can go directly to the Parish Hall on December 21 beginning at 3:30 p.m. We are seeking the following: hot chocolate (chocolate caliente), champurrado (traditional Mexican hot drink), bread (pan dulce), any other desserts or cakes, cookies.
All parents and students are invited to volunteer for set up in the School Hall at 3:30 p.m. and clean up at the end, about 7:30 p.m. Confirmation candidates will receive service hours.
Skating Party Stocking Stuffer
The cost of our super fun and always much-anticipated skating parties will be going up in the new year. But you have the chance to pre-purchase your tickets for the next skating party--January 30, 2020--at the old rate of $6 before the end of the year! Forms were in the Thursday envelope and orders are due by Thursday, December 19. You will receive a voucher to put in your students' stockings, and they will receive their ticket and a Skating Party NUT card the week of the party.
Earn a 75% Tax Credit by Donating to a State Tax Credit Scholarship!
If you or anyone you know likes to take advantage of the tax credits you can get from year-end giving, please refer to the Archdiocese of Chicago's Tax Credit Scholarship information page. Not only will donations to the program made before February 29 (or until the fund is depleted) through Empower Illinois be TRIPLED by the 2-for-1 matching program, but your entire Illinois state tax liability could be eliminated! That means a $1,000 donation gets you a $750 tax credit, and becomes $3,000 in scholarship funding! Plus, donors can designate which school receives their funds, so the money can all stay right here at St. Ann in scholarships to help our families. Print a fact sheet here to give to your loved ones.
School Will Resume on Monday, January 6, 2020
Tax Credit Scholarship Information
Your family may be able to receive a scholarship to cover up to 100% of tuition and fees for the 2020-21 school year! Please note that even if you are already receiving a scholarship this year, all families must reapply every year to be considered for a tax credit scholarship. For eligibility and application requirement information, visit Applying for a Tax Credit Scholarship.
The dates have been set for the state scholarship application process to open:
Empower Illinois - Wednesday, January 15, 2020, 6:30 p.m.
Big Shoulders - Tuesday, January 14, 2020, 8:00 a.m.
It is recommended that families apply with BOTH Scholarship Granting Organizations. On application days, St. Ann School will open its doors to welcome parents who do not have reliable internet access at home or at work. We will have Chromebooks and personnel available to assist. The time stamp is critically important, so we encourage you to submit your application from a location where you have the fastest internet speed.
Are You Sending in Your Stracks Receipts? Please ask others to save them for you too!
Collect Strack & VanTil Food Market register receipts dated between September 1, 2019 and March 2, 2020 to help St. Ann earn FREE educational rewards! Every classroom has a Collection Envelope, and we will be tallying the value of the receipts turned in. The class that brings in the most will win a prize!

We attend Mass together as a school community most Wednesday mornings in the Church at 9:00 a.m. Please join us any time!
