HOLIDAY SEASON IS HERE!!!
November is here and will come and go quickly, as we are in the midst of NJEA teacher convention and just a few weeks away from Thanksgiving! We have been extremely busy and have lots of great things to share at this time. On behalf of all our wonderful staff here at Oakview, we wish you and your families a very Happy Thanksgiving!
- Preschool classes are progressing each day, doing a great job following their daily schedule and engaging in appropriate play activities. Kindergartners are learning more power words each week in American Reading Company and working on their literacy power goals, which help them build upon their existing skills and become stronger readers. First graders are solidifying their understanding of digraphs in Fundations and working diligently within their guided reading groups to read for meaning and develop fluency.
- Fire prevention week was also in October and we had a great assembly with our local fire companies about safety. We also awarded our poster contest winners in first grade!
- Our PTO Scholastic Book Fair was another huge success and we cannot thank our PTO presidents, Kim Schultz & Megan Zakrewsky, for all their hard work, long hours and dedication to our students. All students were super excited to explore new books and everyone had an opportunity to keep a book, which was awesome! Our family night was such a great night and we had so many families enjoy a night out together. Thanks to all parent volunteers throughout that week as well as all families who donated books to their child's classroom libraries!!
- Our Week of Respect activities were a great way to promote a positive school community and teach our students the importance of being kind. This week was highlighted by themed days each day and our staff/students dressed in style! Also, we had an anti-bullying assembly with our furry friend YOJO to educate our young students on being a buddy, rather than a bully.
- Student picture makeup day will be held on Friday, November 15 for any student who missed picture day or would like pictures taken again. Please refer to the flyer sent home for information!
- Kindergarten & preschool enjoyed field trips to Grasso Girls and were able to pick pumpkins, play seasonal games, and go on a hayride. The weather did not want to cooperate on two of our trip days, but we managed and the students had such a great experience!
- Our annual Halloween parade was rain-filled and we had to make a decision on canceling our annual parade, which was a bummer. However, the classroom parties were a blast and we paraded around the hallways to make this a special day for our young students. Thank you parents for all your support!!!
- Our first graders will be heading on their own field trip to the Edelman Planetarium at Rowan University in December, which is a perfect connection to our science units. More details to follow in the next two weeks! Here is a link to explore their website and see the great educational shows they offer...

- American Education Week approaches with our annual parent classroom visitations on Wednesday, November 20. We will have two open visitation periods that day, with our morning session from 10:00-11:00am and afternoon session from 1:30-2:30pm. We hope you can make it and see all the wonderful learning taking place in all classrooms. All visitors will be required to sign-in through our main office.
- Parent/teacher conferences begin on Thursday, 11/21 and run through Tuesday, 11/26. These are half days for students with a 12:55pm dismissal. Students still have lunch on all half days. This is an extremely busy few days for our teachers and our fabulous PTO helps organize meals for them. Please use the link below to contribute to our teacher meals during conferences. Thanks so much for all your support!

- At Oakview, we truly value service learning and teaching our students the importance of contributing to our community. In October, we hosted two school-wide service events with organizing our first Alex's Lemonade Stand of the year, raising over $400 and running a sock drive for our district's Operation Blessing initiative. Great job by all!!!
- We recently had a kindergarten parent information session for our new American Reading Company reading program to share information on the overview of the program and familiarize parents with how their children are learning each day. Please reach out to your child's teacher for more information and expect to see blue book bags coming home with great literature for you and your child to read at home and then return for different books. Thanks for helping us promote the love of reading with our students!

We are up and running with the following weekly awards to motivate students to take pride in their classrooms, during lunch and while out at recess.
