Brief Subject Updates -- Click on buttons below to open parent letters for each subject
Math -- Students continued to practice addition and subtraction with larger numbers and also to communicate about why one strategy works better than another. Students continue to solve problems, work with partners, and learn new games that allow them to develop and improve their addition and subtraction skills.
Reading-- Students continued noticing the lesson taught in folktales and fairy tales. This week students were asked to think about how the lesson might apply to their own lives. Some students took part in readers’ theater, while others had the opportunity to be listeners. Performing is a great opportunity to practice reading with expression. We also read different versions of some well known fairy tales. Students continued to read independently, make entries in their reading logs, and work with partners to share their learning.
Writing -- We celebrated the end of the opinion writing unit by meeting with our KG buddies who had also been writing about their opinions. I will be sending home assessments next week in the Thursday folder.
Social Studies -- This week in social studies we began our new unit of study on maps and landforms. Students shared their previous knowledge about landforms and begin reading maps. Next week for homework students will have the option to create some maps at home. We will focus on creating map keys to go with our maps. We can’t wait to see what they bring back and share.
Additional Information- Classroom Donation Request
If you have newspaper you would like to get rid of please send it in with your child during our Landforms social studies unit. We will be making papier mache landforms as part of our culminating project and would like to begin the collection now.
Change to logging on to NVS
To improve the security of student accounts we are going to change the students' NVS passwords from 12345678 to a unique number for each student. Next week, or soon after, you will get an email containing the new password. This password should be used from then on when you log onto NVS. If you have any problems or questions please feel free to contact me directly by email at pblacklock@asd.edu.qa or through your son or daughter's classroom teacher.

Information From Our Nurses
There are students in your child’s class who have nut allergies. A child with nut allergy can develop mild or severe reactions if they come in contact with the said allergen. Please take note of the following measures:
· Please be considerate of your child’s classmates when sending in snacks (if possible, to avoid sending any nuts or nut products)
· Children should be encouraged to wash their hands before and after lunch, prior to returning to the classroom to avoid any cross-contamination.
· For any special occasions, please be reminded that any food brought in to the class should be nut free.
