Steeple Run Safety Week
As we transition to our full-day schedule, it provides us with many new challenges, including keeping a larger number of students safe and informed in regards to drills and emergency procedures. As we did last year, we are setting aside a week to guide our students through safety at Steeple Run Elementary. Each day of next week we will have an opportunity to talk with our students about a way to be safe at Steeple Run from Fire Drills to Lockdowns.
Our teachers will use their morning meetings/SEL time to talk about how to stay safe at Steeple Run. Students will hear through our announcements and additional conversations in the classroom, about the details of each day and its safety focus. In accordance with health and safety guidelines and different from years past, particular drills (Severe Weather & Bus Evacuation) will be practiced in small groups, while others (Fire & Lockdown) will involve the entire building.
We ask that our Steeple Run families take time to review the importance of practicing these drills with your students, focusing on keeping all of our staff and students safe during any emergency circumstance we could potentially encounter. Your partnership in this process is appreciated.
Moving?
Absences
Absence Reporting
Please call the absence line 630-420-6387 for any reason a student won’t be in person or not participating online. If your child will be tardy, leaving the online zoom meeting early, going on vacation, attending doctor’s appointments, or are having Wi-Fi or tech issues, please call the absence line. While your teachers are always thankful to know about your child's absence remember to contact our health office as well!
Accommodating Changes to In-Person to Online Instruction
We have had some questions coming in regarding the ability to move from in-person to online learning and at times requests to move from online to in-person. For the sanity of our teachers and the successful operation of our building during our next phase of learning, we are asking that families remain within their selected mode of learning.
While there are extenuating circumstances we may consider if, for example, an in-person family needed to move online for a period of time during a period of quarantine or due to unforeseen issues related to health and wellness. Vacationing, waking-up late, or not feeling up to in-person learning for any reason outside COVID-related Health & Safety protocols would not be a reason to move to online learning and would be handled per usual as an absence. Similarly, there may be a valid reason we may consider moving an online family to in-person when possible within our health and safety guidelines.
If you have any questions please reach out to Mr. Ubben or Mr. Louis (aubben@naperville203.org & jlouis@naperville203.org)
THIS FORM NEEDS TO BE FILLED OUT ONLY ONCE
Student Self-Certification Form
Once your student begins attending school in-person, D203 will be following IDPH and ISBE guidance and requiring each student to undergo a daily symptom screening prior to utilizing D203 transportation or entering any D203 building. Parents/guardians will be responsible for conducting daily symptom screening and temperature checks prior to their students departing home for any in-person instruction or any other D203 sponsored event. While a daily symptom check is required you only have to fill out our Student Self-Certification Form once electronically (see link below).
All Parents/Guardians are required to complete the Student Self-Certification Form prior to a student participating in in-person instruction. Students will not be allowed to participate in any in-person instruction until this form has been received.
As an additional precaution, temperature checks will be conducted each morning at student entrances. Temperatures will not be recorded daily. However, any student exhibiting a temperature at or above 100.4 will be required to be picked up from school and may not return until the Return to School criteria have been met and the student is fever free without medication for 24 hours.
Families are asked to monitor their students closely for any of the following COVID-19 symptoms:
Temperature of 100.4 (or greater) degrees Fahrenheit/38 degrees Celsius;
New Cough;
New onset of moderate to severe headache;
Shortness of breath;
Sore throat;
Diarrhea;
New loss of taste or smell;
Fatigue from an unknown cause;
Muscle and body aches;
Any other COVID-10 symptoms identified by the CDC or IDPH
Students experiencing any of the above symptoms should remain home and caregivers should report the symptoms in writing to the school nurse. We are required by IDPH to consider any student experiencing one or more the symptoms of COVID-19 as a possible case unless we receive an alternative diagnosis from a health care provider. Students must meet Return to School criteria in order to participate in in-person learning or any other D203 sponsored event.
In addition, we are asking that Parents/Guardians certify the following each day:
Has not experienced any of the above symptoms (without an alternative diagnosis) in the 10 previous days;
Has not had close contact with any individual that has tested positive or has a presumed case of COVID-19 within the last 14 days;
That no one in the household is currently being evaluated for COVID-19;
Has not tested positive COVID-19 in the last 10 days; and
Has not been asked to self-quarantine or self-isolate for any reasons associated with COVID-19.
Thank you for your ongoing understanding and support as we implement these recommendations provided by the IDPH and ISBE. Please reach out to Principal Louis or our school Nurse Francine McCabe (fmccabe@naperville203.org) with any questions.

Illinois Assessment of Readiness
Students enrolled in third through eighth grade will be completing the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR). The IAR assessment is an online group-administered achievement test designed to measure student proficiency relative to the Illinois Learning Standards in the areas of English Language Arts/Literacy and Mathematics. Although the larger testing window for IAR has opened, our Steeple Run third through fifth-grade students will complete the series of assessments between April 21st-30th. Additional information is provided in the letter below.
ACCESS
ACCESS for ELLs® is the annual English language proficiency test designed to measure English language learners' social and academic proficiency in English. This assessment is administered to all students eligible for English Language Acquisition Services, whether or not the students are receiving these services. ACCESS for ELLs® assesses social and instructional English as well as the language associated with language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies within the school context across the four language domains (listening, speaking, reading, and writing). ACCESS for ELLs® testing began this year on March 16th and will continue through the month of April. Thank you to our EL teachers for their time and effort in helping our students successfully complete this series of assessments.
