RES PARTICIPATES IN WORLD CUP STACKING EVENT
Students from Rockville Elementary School participated in the World Sport Stacking Association (WSSA) STACK UP! event to help set a new Guinness World Records in sport stacking on Thursday, November 14.
During their physical education classes, the students stacked cups at various skills stations. Rotating between five different cup stacking stations, the students used various motor skills to stack and down-stack the cups. Stacking promotes hand-eye coordination, brain activation, fitness, teamwork, speed and lots of fun. Sport stacking has been termed a “track meet for your hands at warp speed.”
At one station, students stacked cups while being in the push-up position. Another station involved stacking large cups and then running to tag the next player. Other stations involved using one-hand, speed and accuracy.
“Cup stacking is great for all ages and ability levels. I am very proud of the kids for being willing and excited to try something new. The cups are a great way to incorporate muscular strength and endurance, cardiovascular fitness and teamwork activities into my lessons,” said Mrs. Amy Harpold, physical education teacher.
During the course of Guinness World Records Day, sport stackers from all reaches of the world were up stacking and down stacking various pyramids in prescribed patterns at lightning speed for at least 30 minutes, all combined with a variety of fitness activities.
Over 637,000 stackers contributed their sport stacking skills from across the United States and around the world in countries such as Hungary, Germany, Israel, South Korea, New Zealand, Columbia, and Taiwan.
