Read-A-Thon Follow Up- IMPORTANT INFO!
As promised, I will be getting taped to the wall at 2:30 pm on 11/30. Your students will be able to pay $1 to get a piece of tape and help. We will call classes down one at a time to help. We will try to live stream it so you and your class and broadcast it in your rooms.
On 12/1 at 8:30 am, we will be having a Read-A-Thon/PBIS assembly during which I will *attempt* to rap Llama Llama (please join in with me so I don't have to do this alone! PLEASE!!!) As students get off their buses, they will go into the cafeteria as usual, but at 8:25, students will enter the gym and sit with their class.
The assembly will begin at 8:30 with the pledge and announcements. Then we will start our activities. We have 19 students who won time in the wind machine from the Read-A-Thon. We will also allow students to pay 50 starbucks for time in the wind machine and win prizes from the school (coupons for books). During the assembly, the PTO will present the gift cards to the Read-A-Thon gift card winners as well. We will also do some PBIS games as we usually do too!!! It should be a blast. At 9:30 we will conclude and continue our day. It is an early release day so it is probably going to be a busy day!
Screen Free Week Planning
Next year, Screen Free Week is April 30th - May 6th and Beth Macy would like to celebrate. For anyone who is interested in helping organize some educational resources, activity packets, and other ways to promote more screen-free time in our students' lives, there will be a very general planning meeting on December 1st at 8:00 in the elementary library. Please come and bring any ideas you have!
If you'd like to find out a little more, the website is www.screenfree.org.
Here's an interesting video to inspire you :)
ELA Pilots
As we move forward, please keep in mind that we are piloting (investigating) various programs, and the likelihood of adopting each program is only between 30%-50%. I know that as we start making final decisions this spring, there are going to be those of you who had your "heart set" on a specific program and may find yourselves disappointed. Please remember that we will select the program as a district based on set criteria. In the meantime we need to be remain open- minded about ALL of the programs and their capacities to best meet the needs of our diverse student body while also keeping in mind best practices and the necessity for balanced literacy. If you have questions about the pilots, please see Barb, Lenayn or me.
Lexia & Edgenuity
If you have not had a chance to get your kids on the programs, please let me know if you need assistance or support. I will help in any way I can. We really need to be utilizing these amazing resources when possible. I have heard great feedback from parents about using the programs at home as well.
Thanks!
Thank you!

Recycling- PLEASE READ!!!
This year we will be enhancing our recycling program. We need your help! There will be new recycling containers placed in your classrooms. We need to avoid throwing items in the garbage if they can be recycled.
Students will need some help determining what is recyclable and what is not when placing items in your classroom bins. Attached is a flyer that I was hoping you could all share with your students on Tuesday to help facilitate this.
Every night, we will be asking the cleaning company to empty your classroom bins into the large recycling bins in the pods. Those will then be taken to the bins outside in back of the school.
